GTA 6 Rockstar Official News And Rumors On Release Date, Story And More

It’s official: GTA 6 will be released! “active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway” Rockstar Games revealed in February, hiding the revelation into the bottom of a Newswire blog post. Beyond that, we don’t have any additional official specifics, but the fact that it’s actually occurring is a solid start.

The GTA series is one of the most popular and well-known video game franchises of all time.

Rockstar Games confirmed that “active development” for GTA 6 is already underway, although they didn’t reveal any other details about the game. It’s likely that we won’t hear much more until closer to the game’s release date. But in the meantime, fans are busy speculating about what new features and improvements will be included in GTA 6.

One thing is for sure: many people are eagerly anticipating its release!

GTA 6 rumors and hearsay have been circulating for so long that it feels weird to have something formally verified. The game’s plot, setting, features, and other facts have all been leaked, so it’ll be interesting to see what Rockstar has to say next.

The most recent piece of information that fans have received comes from a Rockstar job posting, which suggests that GTA 6 would have tremendous detail and “large-scale damage.” That might be a significant improvement above what you can get now in GTA 5 and GTA Online. Furthermore, GTA aficionados believe that this San Andreas easter egg is their first glimpse of GTA 6, implying that an official revelation might happen later this year.

GTA 6 release date?

To cut a long tale short, if Rockstar had announced GTA 6 the day after Red Dead Redemption 2 was released (October 26, 2018 — mark your calendars), we’d be waiting roughly 22 months – or August 2020 – based on previous delays between console GTA announcements and releases. Rockstar didn’t do that, of course.

It didn’t do anything until Rockstar stated it was working on the game in February 2022. As a result, predicting a release window is challenging. However, according to a recent leak, it will not arrive until the end of 2024.

According to the latest rumors, GTA 6 will be released in 2025. The game is set in a modern-day version of Vice City, which will expand and evolve over time, according to the hint.

This contradicts previous reports that GTA 6 will be released in October 2023 and would be based in Miami. However, that information comes from a shady web source, and other facts from that leak include a single, male protagonist, a 1970s setting, and a chaptered tale similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.

It’s just getting more exciting with Rockstar teasing fans on Twitter with the official Rockstar Support account encouraging us to “stay tuned” for GTA 6 updates.

What will the GTA 6 setting be?

There have been various reports regarding possible GTA 6 locations, including a return to Vice City or a setting that spans the whole United States.

According to the most recent speculations, which surfaced in June 2021, the GTA 6 setting would be a modern-day reproduction of Vice City, which was later confirmed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

Tom Henderson, a seasoned tipper, predicted that GTA 6 will be set in the present day in March 2021. Henderson merely quoted someone’s inquiry on Twitter and simply stated, “It’s not set in the 1980s and is modern”

However, in 2020, a massive GTA 6 leak was discovered on Reddit. A total of 23 information concerning Rockstar’s future game were revealed by user JackOLantern1982. They also reveal that the game’s codename is Project Americas, indicating that it would be set in numerous nations, including Brazil a fictitious metropolis modeled on Rio de Janeiro, and Vice City in the United States.

According to the rumor, Netflix’s Narcos would have a big effect on the storyline (which is a phenomenal series about the origins of the cocaine trade).

According to the leak, you’ll be creating your own drug empire utilizing a system similar to Vice City Stories, but considerably more in-depth – comparable to, but larger than, GTA Online. In Red Dead Redemption 2, your truck will work similarly to the horse, allowing you to keep your gear in the trunk rather than on your character.

According to this leak, the game will be set in the 1970s and 1980s, featuring buildings that change and degrade through time, as well as weather.

Another purported Fireden leak indicates that GTA 6 will be set in modern-day Liberty City, with the opening of the game evocative to the TV show The Wire. It does appear to be based on a drug ring, which is a common theme among the leaks.

Reports of a London location for GTA 6 first surfaced a few years ago, putting the next game possibly on the doorstep of Rockstar Games’ own studio. In a September 2013 interview with Polygon, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser stated the following:

At the moment, it feels like GTA’s DNA is contemporary-ish, American-ish, English-speaking-ish, because that’s what it has been… but that doesn’t necessarily limit it to those, that’s just what we’ve done so far.

Many speculated that GTA would be looking for inspiration elsewhere, perhaps even returning to the UK. In an interview with The Guardian that same month, Houser also stated that GTA will not return to London:

I think for us, my gut feeling is, GTA London was cool for the time, but games were more limited then. These days I think we would love to set a game in the UK, set in London, whatever, but I don’t know if it would be a GTA game. I think there are plenty of great stories we could tell about the UK, great environments to showcase, great gameplay mechanics that could have the UK bent to them – I just don’t think it would be a GTA necessarily.”

According to a source who spoke to TechRadar in March 2016, Rockstar visited Tokyo as a reference trip for a game called GTA: Tokyo that was released some years ago. The game’s concept was eventually scrapped, but not before the team spoke with residents, took a ton of photos, and got a strong feel for the city before beginning on that specific gaming voyage.

According to the source, Rockstar was “serious” about making a game set in Japan, and even trademarked the titles GTA: Toyko, GTA: Bogota, and, oddly, GTA: Sin City in 2003. That was during the period of GTA 3 and Vice City, but the road system was considered a flaw, and that was one of the reasons the project was finally shelved.

Because the GTA 6 rumors are so widespread right now, let’s start with some background information. GTA games have previously been set in the following locations:

Liberty City – GTA 3, GTA 4, Lost and Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony

Vice City – GTA Vice City

San Andreas / Los Santos – GTA: San Andreas, GTA 5

If history repeats itself, Vice City or Liberty City appear to be the most probable choices… However, it’s feasible that the game may explore new regions, which seems more likely given the expectations set by GTA Online, namely that the universe would not shrink. Leslie Benzies of Rockstar claimed in 2013 on the YouTube GTA program GTAVoclock that the goal for GTA Online was “To grow this world until it’s the world. We’re just going to add on new things to it, new places all the time

What is the story of GTA 6?

There are several speculations about the GTA 6 plot, ranging from various protagonists to a single male hero.

The 2020 Reddit leak hinted about the 1970s/80s setting and a single male protagonist titled “Ricardo,” who is an up-and-coming drug lord want tobe. The story includes another important figure named “Kacey.” According to the leak, you’ll start off as a grunt performing cocaine runs from Vice City to a new vast South American territory before developing contacts with big-time drug lords and working your way up, with the tale spanning many cities.

A younger Martin Madrazo is expected to appear, as will his father, who was a powerful drug kingpin at the time. You assist the Madrazo family with various hit-and-run missions against rival gangs. According to reports, the narrative would also address issues such as HIV and the immigration crises in the 1970s and 1980s.

According to an earlier Fireden leak, the film would have four main characters: two cops and two gang members. According to the leak, the primary plot separates after a time, with the criminal side having a sandbox build-a-crime-empire feel (like Fallout 4 meets the Sims), and the police side being more of a classic action game with a LA Noire twist.

According to the most recent rumors, the modern-day Vice City version will have many playable characters, including a “tech-savvy lady,” and the game’s terrain would grow and change over time, similar to Fortnite. Schreier has recently backed up nearly all of these assertions, writing on Twitter.

Interestingly, Rockstar hasn’t ruled out the possibility of using several characters in future games, similar to the GTA 5 trio. “Maybe we will do it again with another game,” Rockstar said following the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, which only has one playable character in Arthur Morgan. “but in Red Dead Redemption 2, you are this man and you will share his adventure,” he said.

What are Rockstar announcements about GTA?

In a four-part interview with Develop magazine in 2013, Rockstar North’s previous President revealed the next series entry, which sparked internet speculation:

“We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas, we’ve got about 45 years’ worth of ideas we want to do. We’ll pick the right ones. It comes from the idea first. Where it is going to be set is the first question. That then defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in.”

Of course, Benzies didn’t reveal much about what shape GTA 6 will take, leaving Rockstar North in a tense situation. Rockstar is unlikely to abandon the GTA series’ tried-and-true production approach, which involves first creating an environment and then layering characters and structures on top. GTA 5 was made by over 1000 developers from around the world, thus changing the template would be a bold step.

Will there be a GTA 6 PC release?

GTA 6 is almost certain to be a PS5 and Xbox Series X release at this point, especially with the planned GTA 5 next-gen update for console and PC. However, it’s not certain whether a PC version of GTA 6 will be published at the same time as the console versions.

GTA 5 and GTA 4 were also finally ported to PC, thus you should expect a GTA 6 PC port as well. It may not have a simultaneous release, but the extra refinement and development time has so far paid well, so PC fans should be ready to wait a little longer.
