Summary:
- An artist on Instagram imagines Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Apocalypse, one of the strongest X-Men in history, in their new fan art.
- The artist believes that Johnson has the perfect build and charisma to portray the notorious X-Men villain.
- Johnson has been linked to the role of Apocalypse before, making him a perfect candidate, should Marvel launch their own X-Men movie.
Black Adam‘s superstar, Dwayne Johnson, might have just found his perfect Marvel role yet. Recent fan art envisions him as Apocalypse, one of the X-Men‘s most formidable foes, in a potential future Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
The artwork, created by @mikeposters on Instagram, showcases Johnson as the nefarious mutant Apocalypse with a creatively dark twist—a dead Cyclops’s skull is seen on the side, along with an ominous tagline, “Only the strong will survive.” The second pic is almost the same, but with Johnson’s eyes glowing as if he’s about to unleash his power.

Following the recent rumors and the X-Men ’97 finale, I decided to create my version of En Sabah Nur, aka Apocalypse. I think he’s an incredible character who deserves to be brought back to the big screen. As a huge fan of Dwayne Johnson, I believe he would be perfect to portray this iconic villain. His commanding presence and natural charisma would be a perfect match for Apocalypse’s powerful aura,” Mikeposter wrote in the caption.
There’s been speculative buzz that Johnson was being considered for the role of Apocalypse, though no official confirmation has come from Marvel Studios. However, as Marvel’s exclusive X-Men movie is reportedly in the slate, Apocalypse could be included as well as the villain for the new mutant team.
In the comics, En Sabah Nuh, or Apocalypse, is one of the strongest mutants to have ever existed. His vast powers include teleportation, telekinesis, mind control, matter manipulation, immortality, power absorption, healing, and so much more.
As shown in the 2016 X-Men movie, the villain can take on the entire X-Men team with ease, Magneto and Professor X included. Only thanks to the power of the Phoenix from Jean Grey that the team was able to defeat Apocalypse.
And, just like Mikeposters said, The Rock has the perfect build and charisma to portray a live-action Apocalypse. The role previously belonged to Oscar Isaac, who needed a bit of help from CGI to create a bigger and more intimidating version of the mutant king. However, Dwayne Johnson is already ripped enough to play the part.
The WWE star isn’t a stranger to similar roles either. He portrays Black Adam in the DCEU, who also has imposing strength and superb body mass, making him a great fit to play Apocalypse as well.
Dwayne Johnson hasn’t appeared in the MCU yet, but if he does in the future, we already have a perfect role for him.
