With Destin Daniel Cretton, the director for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel is producing a Wonder Man TV series for Disney+. As WandaVision indicated the start of a wave of content on the streaming service of Disney in 2021, the MCU is brought to the small screen as a result. And now, after launching Ms. Marvel and closing up Moon Knight, the studios is gearing up for its second wave of series, with She-Hulk ready. There are, however, a slew of even more MCU Disney+ series that are in the works.

Recent rumors had that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton was the middle of preparing a series among the projects for new Marvel series on Disney+. At that moment, people assumed that the show would be a spinoff for Shang-Chi, possibly centering on Xialing and the new-look Ten Rings. Kevin Feige has also indicated that audiences will be treated with an unanticipated Disney+ series from Cretton in the period since this rumor emerged.
Cretton’s Marvel show, according to THR, would absolutely be Wonder Man. The source reveals that Cretton is creating the show with Andrew Guest, writer for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, who will also serve as the show’s executive producer. And at least one episode could be directed by Cretton. Though Wonder Man remain in the initial steps of preparation, shooting is able to start from next year. Known under the alias Simon Williams, Wonder Man is a significant Marvel hero who has ties to the stories of Wanda and Vision.

After his debut in 1964, Simon Williams, a.k.a Wonder Man, is famous for being one of Marvel Comics’ oldest characters. The character began off as a villain, but later transformed and even joined the West Coast Avengers among the founding members, prompting him to become a celebrity actor when he wasn’t saving the day. He’s connected to Vision in the comics after it was disclosed that the synthezoid was based on Simon’s brainwaves. After Vision’s death, this even resulted in Wonder Man and Scarlet Witch becoming engaged in a romantic relationship. His superpowers originates from ionic energy, allowing him to perform amazing feats including teleportation, size shifting, energy control, and more, based on the comic run.
The MCU has continuously teased with the idea of deploying Wonder Man on multiple occasions, with GotG 2 being the nearest after James Gunn let Nathan Fillion portray the actor version of him for some background posters. Now it’s Simon Williams’ time to have a good introduction to the shared universe with Wonder Man. Depending on Guest’s involvement, he’ll spear to have a comic tone throughout his debut. It’ll be interesting to see how Wonder Man ties into Shang-Chi 2 and Cretton’s wider tale.
