Neighbor Parks Dead Car On Private Spot And Pretends No English When Dad Takes Matters Into Own Hands

A father’s frustration boiled over when troublesome renters dumped their broken-down car in his cherished shady parking spot on family land, turning a peaceful home into a battleground of ignored boundaries. In a small cluster of homes, one side brought easy camaraderie, but the other delivered endless chaos: blaring parties, a fleet of vehicles crammed in, and outright disrespect.

When confronted about relocating the unused junker, the neighbor feigned a complete language barrier, buying weeks of delay. So the dad quietly rented a tow truck, waited for the coast to clear, and dumped the car in a distant shopping center lot. Come morning, flawless English emerged as the neighbor inquired about its disappearance, only to meet a shrug and feigned ignorance.

A dad’s clever tow truck revenge resolved a neighbor’s unauthorized parking on his private spot.

'Pretending to not speak English after we ask you to move your car off our property? Fine, we’ll do it ourselves'

On mobile. Dad just told me this story tonight. Before my parents divorced, we lived in a 3 house “neighborhood”.

Our neighbors to the left of us were friendly and we got along with them well.

Our neighbors on the right however were different—it was rented out to multiple families, one of them being an Asian family with 7 cars (this is relevant).

Always conflict with them, from 24/7 house parties to trying to break into our cars. The family always caused trouble for whatever reason.

Dysfunctional. and probably in debt with how many cars they had between 4 people.

There was a particular tree on our property that my dad always parked his car under. It was obvious and known that was my dad’s spot.

One evening, my dad comes home to find the Asian neighbors had parked their car in his spot.

A dead car that they didn’t use anymore bc they probably couldn’t afford to fix it, so they decided our property was the best place to leave it to rot.

My dad knocked on their door and asked them to move it so he could park

but the gentleman at the door said in a thick accent, “Sorry, no speak English, no speak English.” Which was obvious b__lshit.

My dad was not amused. He told them, “Alright. Just move your car or I’ll call someone to get it towed.”

Two weeks go by and the car is still there. Three week, they still haven’t moved the car.

My dad gets fed up. The may have seven cars but that didn’t mean they could park on our property.

My dad decided to take matters into his own hands. He rented a tow truck and waited for the family to be out of the house.

Hooked up the car and drove it out to a random parking lot in the shopping center nearby and left it there.

Next day, the neighbor came by. “Hey man, do you know what happened to my car?”

Perfectly English, not a trace of an accent all of a sudden. Surprise, surprise.

My dad played dumb about it. “I thought you couldn’t speak English?

Sorry, man, I don’t know what happened to your car. If you moved it though, thank you, man. I appreciate it.”

Our neighbor couldn’t do much bc he didn’t have any proof my dad did it. Didn’t talk to us or park in our spot ever again.

Dealing with unwanted vehicles on your land can turn even the chillest homeowner into a boundary enforcer overnight.

The core issue here boils down to respect for private property. The dad gave fair warning and plenty of time, even weeks before acting, showing patience amid clear overstepping.

From the neighbors’ side, parking an inoperable car on someone else’s spot might stem from convenience or overcrowding at their place, but ignoring requests escalated things. That sudden language barrier? It’s a common dodge in tense situations, allowing someone to sidestep responsibility without outright refusal.

These parking spats highlight broader neighbor dynamics, where small annoyances like spots and boundaries bubble up frequently. A Top Rail Fence survey revealed that roughly 46% of respondents have had a dispute with a neighbor in the past, often over everyday issues like this.

Legal experts emphasize handling unauthorized parking properly to avoid risks. As noted in guidance from Ted Kimball, Esq., of Kimball Tirey & St. John LLP, “Improper removal of a vehicle from private property may subject the property owner and/or manager to civil and criminal liability.”

Property owners generally can’t just move a vehicle themselves, as it could lead to liability for damage or even accusations of theft. Instead, the recommended path is calling a professional towing service, especially if the spot is clearly on private land.

In this case, the dad’s DIY tow brought a cheeky end to the standoff, but it carried risks like potential damage claims or misunderstandings. Neighbors reclaimed their space peacefully afterward, dodging ongoing friction.

Neutral advice? Start with a calm chat and clear signs if possible, document everything, and involve pros for removal, as the owner’s expense usually covers it.

Setting clear boundaries early, perhaps with friendly reminders or posted signs, often prevents these parking headaches from dragging on. Everyone wins when respect flows both ways, turning potential rivals into tolerable cohabitants.

Open communication often nips these in the bud, but when it doesn’t, following local rules keeps things fair and drama-free.

Check out how the community responded:

Some people find the story humorous and praise the dad’s clever revenge.

nzwolfgang − Was waiting for the last line to be your dad saying “Sorry I don’t speak English” when they came knocking on his door.

belaoxmyx − I didn't know one could just rent a tow truck.

shy_audience − Love that your dad was smarter at playing dumb than the neighbor.

I probably would've said "Sorry but I don't speak Asian!!!" and made everything worse.

005056 − TiL that you can rent a tow truck

Some people believe OP’s dad was too lenient and should have towed it immediately.

nuffsaidson − Legally. If the car is on your property. You could have it towed at the OWNERS expense.

You were more than nice. Two weeks? I would have has it tower in two hours.

[Reddit User] − Your neighbor parked their vehicle on land that was legally your property and he waited weeks to do something about it?

I would have dealt with it right then and there and made sure they knew it was me.

Others question details or warn about potential legal risks of dad’s method.

Letmf2 − Well, was the parking spot on the street or a public parking lot?

I’m not saying your neighbor wasn’t a moron, just that if so, wasn’t really your parking spot.

Also, who daf__k owns 7 cars? I wish I had 1 and that’d be enough.

RedditSkippy − I don’t understand. Was the space under the tree on your property or a spot in the street?

SnakeDoctor00 − Eh this could’ve been bad, here’s why.

Depending on your location this is actually vehicle theft, depriving the owner of use or possession of their vehicle.

Being that your father towed it if an investigation was done it wouldn’t be that hard to make an arrest if they found your father rented a tow vehicle recently.

Secondly leaving the car in a parking lot isn’t that great either. Possibility of cameras around and the like.

Tell your dad the best way is to call a tow company, say there’s a vehicle not yours on your property and they will come collect it.

This means the car will sit in a lot, similar to how your dad left it. EXECPT- that tow yard charges a daily fee on top of the original tow...

They can either pay it or the company puts a lien on the car and ends up keeping or scrapping.

Also If a tow company does it there’s no criminal action whatsoever, so long as that was your dad property.

Otherwise that’s hilarious they came back at him with English!

urbansasquatchNC − I think you're within your rights to have cars towed off your property. Could also potentially file a dumping charge

In the end, Dad’s clever relocation brought sweet relief, proving sometimes a little initiative restores order without bigger blowups. Was his hands-on approach justified after weeks of ignored pleas, or better to go official from the start? How would you handle a neighbor turning your spot into their storage? Drop your thoughts, peaceful resolutions or epic comebacks welcome!
