The Dallas Cowboys are facing a fresh concern at quarterback. Just days after Dak Prescott’s season-ending hamstring surgery, backup Cooper Rush unexpectedly appeared on Thursday’s injury report. Scheduled to start Monday night against the Houston Texans, Rush’s injury status has raised questions about the team’s depth under center.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Rush left practice with a neck strain. Though he still managed to fully participate, the injury has reportedly been lingering for several days. Head coach Mike McCarthy shared that Rush initially strained his neck during last week’s 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, suffering the strain after his first fumble.

Rush downplayed the injury, however, telling ESPN’s Todd Archer, “Little neck thing, but we were good to go. We’re feeling great now.” The veteran QB added that it took “only a minute” to recover from the strain.
Despite concerns from fans, ESPN’s Ed Werder confirmed Rush is still expected to start Monday night, keeping him as the team’s best option for a crucial matchup against the AFC South leaders. For now, it appears Dallas won’t need to turn to Trey Lance, but the situation highlights the tenuous stability of the Cowboys’ quarterback room as they head into a must-win game.
