The Dallas Cowboys are in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. After a crushing 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10, tensions are running high, and star linebacker Micah Parsons fueled the fire with comments that appeared to take aim at head coach Mike McCarthy. Veteran guard Zack Martin, unintentionally drawn into the controversy, has now weighed in.
The drama began when Parsons suggested that his focus was not on winning for McCarthy but for teammates like Martin, who might be in his final NFL season. These remarks were widely interpreted as a jab at McCarthy, whose job security has been a hot topic amid the Cowboys’ 3-6 slump.
Caught in the crossfire, Martin tried to defuse the situation when asked about it.
“I want to win every week,” Martin said on Thursday. “If you ask anyone in this locker room, they’d say the same. You play for the guys in the locker room. I think that’s what (Parsons) was saying. You want to win for the guys you go to work with every day. That doesn’t change no matter what the circumstances are.”
Martin, now in his 11th NFL season and the final year of his contract, avoided diving into Parsons’ controversial comments directly, focusing instead on the team’s collective effort.
The Cowboys, already reeling from Dak Prescott’s season-ending injury, face an uphill battle to salvage their season. With Cooper Rush under center, the offense struggled mightily in Week 10, and a repeat performance would all but confirm a lost season.
As tensions simmer in Dallas, the team is at a breaking point. Parsons, Martin, and the rest of the Cowboys will need to unite quickly if they hope to turn things around. Their next challenge comes against the Houston Texans in Week 11, where they’ll try to prove that all is not lost.
