The Dallas Cowboys may have had a disappointing season so far, but there’s a bright spot ahead. All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland is expected to make his season debut against the Washington Commanders on Thanksgiving.
Bland, sidelined since the preseason with a foot injury, has been sorely missed in a defense that has struggled throughout 2023. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed the news during an interview with 105.3 The Fan earlier this week.
“Unless something pops its head up in the next couple of days, we anticipate DaRon Bland making his season debut,” Jones stated.
A Much-Needed Boost for the Defense
Bland’s return couldn’t come at a better time. The 2023 Pro Bowler was a defensive force last year, leading the league with nine interceptions and setting an NFL record for pick-six touchdowns in a single season with five. His ball-hawking ability and knack for game-changing plays have been noticeably absent this season.
In just two years with Dallas, Bland has racked up 14 interceptions—the most by any Cowboys defender during that span. His presence will significantly bolster the Cowboys’ secondary as they aim to salvage what’s left of their season.
A Familiar Foe Awaits
If Bland takes the field as expected, he’ll face a team he’s dominated before. Last Thanksgiving, Bland notched one of his five pick-six touchdowns in a commanding 45-10 victory over Washington. The Cowboys will hope for a similar impact this time around.
While the playoffs remain a long shot, Bland’s return gives Dallas fans a reason to hope. A revitalized defense could spark a late-season surge, and Bland’s leadership in the secondary will be critical to any turnaround.
The Cowboys take on the Commanders this Thursday at AT&T Stadium. Can Bland’s return provide the spark Dallas desperately needs? All eyes will be on No. 26.
