Sex/Life has been renewed for a second season on Netflix. In the first four weeks after its May 25 premiere, the steamy drama’s debut season was seen by 67 million homes, according to the streaming service.
Sex/Life’s large fanbase
The 67 million viewers are the third-largest audience for a Netflix original series. Despite the fact that the streamer’s subscription base is constantly growing, it is only behind the first seasons of Bridgerton and The Witcher in terms of audience counts for newer episodes.
Sarah Shahi, Mike Vogel, Adam Demos, and Margaret Odette, all series regulars on Sex/Life, are set to return for Season 2. Once again, filming will take held in Toronto.
Sex/Life was conceived and written by Stacy Rukeyser, who also acts as showrunner, and is based on the novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men by BB Easton. J. Miles Dale and Jordan Hawley co-produce with Rukeyser.
Sex/Life’s plot
Sex/Life is a bold new look at female identity and desire through the lens of a love triangle between a woman, her husband, and her history. Billie Connelly (Sarah Shahi) wasn’t always a suburban wife and mother. Billie was a free-spirited wild child living in New York City with her closest friend Sasha (Margaret Odette) before marrying loving and loyal Cooper (Mike Vogel) and moving to Connecticut.
Billie begins blogging and dreaming about her passionate escapades with handsome ex-boyfriend Brad (Adam Demos), the great heartache she never got over, while she is exhausted from taking care of her two small children and feels homesick for her past.
However, the more Billie recalls, the more she wonders how she ended herself here – until her husband discovers her notebook. Will Billie’s revelations about her past spark a sexual revolution in her marriage, or will they bring her back to the life she thought she had left behind with the guy who broke her heart?
Rukeyser stated, “Sex/Life is a dream come true. To create a show about empowered female sexuality that has entranced so many millions of viewers is not only immensely fun but also incredibly gratifying. When I think about all the women who have reached out from all over the world to say that the show speaks to them in a deeply personal way, I am so inspired. I’m thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to continue telling this story for Billie, and for all of us.”
