Carmen Salinas passed away on Thursday night after a 60-year history in Spanish-language television and movies. Her family revealed her passing on social media after she had been in a coma since November after having a stroke.
“With great sorrow, we inform you that leading actress Carmen Salinas passed away today,” said a Twitter statement that included a black-and-white photo and thanked fans.

Carmen Salinas began her acting career as a youngster in the 1950s when she was born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. Salinas began her career on the radio, singing and impersonating celebrities, before going on to beauty pageants and nightclubs.
Carmen Salinas became well-known in telenovelas throughout the 1960s, with roles in Casa de Barrio, Frontera, and Sublime Redención. That led to a role in Roberto Gavaldón’s La Vida Intil de Pito Pérez, which she played for the first time. El Crimen del Cácaro Gumaro, La Misma Luna, Todo el Poder, Danzón, Cartas an Elena, Esta Noche Cena Pancho, Que Viva Tepito!, and Bellas de Noche were among her subsequent appearances.
Carmen Salinas also starred in the 2004 thriller Man on Fire, directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington.
Aventurera, a musical she produced starring Edith González, Itat Cantoral, Niurka Marcos, Ninel Conde, and Maribel Guardia, was one of her theater credits.
Carmen Salinas later joined Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party, and in 2015, she was elected plurinominal federal deputy, a seat she maintained until 2018.
