Spider-Man has been on the big screen multiple times over the past two decades. He is arguably the most well-known character in the Marvel comics canon and MCU. They were previously very simple to follow – Spider-Man has several solo journeys, then the franchise is relaunched with another actor in the costume, and so on – starting with filmmaker Sam Raimi’s groundbreaking Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire. All that mattered was the release order.

However, Spider-on-screen Man’s appearances are starting to web swing out of control, just as it’s getting harder to keep up with how to watch the Marvel movies in order.

Nowadays, it’s very difficult to keep up with the exploits of our beloved wallcrawler because of crossovers, reboots, spin-offs, and multi-studio character deals. You, therefore, have a few various options for how to approach a marathon session with Spidey, depending on how you like your watching sessions and what you want to gain out of your time with your friendly neighborhood superhero.

These are your alternatives if you’re seeking the many methods to view the Spider-Man movies in order and with some logic to them.

How to watch the Spider-Man movies in order – release order

The various Spider-Man adventures are listed first, in a sequence of releases. That would be the Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire trilogy that debuted in 2002, followed by the two “Amazing” movies starring Andrew Garfield from 2012, and finally, the current Spider-man, Tom Holland, and his solo MCU appearances – except for the Avengers flick.

  1. Spider-Man (2002)
  2. Spider-Man 2 (2004)
  3. Spider-Man 3 (2007)
  4. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
  5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
  6. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
  7. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
  8. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

That would allow you to see Spider-Man’s development on-screen in stunning detail. However, since Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker’s movies are so intertwined with those of The Avengers, concentrating only on Spider-Man movies wouldn’t offer you the complete tale of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. onto the next choice, then!

The Avengers and Spider-Man movies in order

Since they combine several characters to tell a much bigger overall tale, modern Marvel films, also known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the MCU, are in part so profitable and well-liked. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies add to this mix, and No Way Home’s actions finally brought the Maguire and Garfield Spider-Men into this larger MCU plot as well.

You must thus watch at least a couple more MCU movies to fully understand how Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has developed into the hero we know and love. For the whole experience, some could argue that you should watch every MCU Marvel film, but we’ll save that discussion for another time. If you want the complete Tom Holland as Peter Parker tale and how it relates to the early Spider-folk, at the very least, these are the MCU movies you must include.

  1. Spider-Man (2002)
  2. Spider-Man 2 (2004)
  3. Spider-Man 3 (2007)
  4. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
  5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
  6. Captain America: Civil War (2016)
  7. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
  8. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
  9. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
  10. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
  11. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

How to watch the Spider-Man movies in order – chronological order?

Now that we’re truly getting down to business, some comic book nerdery enters the picture. Spider-Man has appeared in many different guises on television and in the Marvel comics from where he originated. The Spider-Man of the “Ultimate” universe, several Earths (such as Earth-9500, Earth-982, etc.), and the Earth-616 reality, where he initially appeared, are all fictional characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

Therefore, Earth-616 is sort of viewed as the “core” Spider-Man experience from which many of the movies ultimately take their cues. The traditional storyline was established at this point: the radioactive spider bite, the passing of his adored uncle Ben, the attraction to Mary Jane, etc. You can…roughly… trace a route through each iteration of Spider-Man that more or less takes the steps given out by this first comic incarnation. Different films take different components of these early storylines, modifying them as they go along.

For instance, Andrew Garfield‘s movies come first since Peter Parker fell in love with Gwen Stacey before he did with MJ. Both Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies omit the origin tale of the spider bite and uncle’s death, placing Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies ahead of Tom Holland’s. If you want to see the movies more closely resemble the comic book arcs, this is a fascinating alternate method but it’s not a perfect science. Though perhaps not the finest for a first viewing, here we go!

  1. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
  2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
  3. Spider-Man (2002)
  4. Spider-Man 2 (2004)
  5. Spider-Man 3 (2007)
  6. Captain America: Civil War (2016)
  7. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
  8. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
  9. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
  10. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
  11. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Spider-Man movies in order: the most enjoyable way to experience

The complete Spider-Man package is now available! First, some background: Spider-role Man’s film is complex, partly due to all the agreements made regarding the character’s on-screen appearances. Even though Sony retains the Spider-Man character rights, Disney owns Marvel. This was because of an ongoing agreement with the Marvel corporation when it was still an independent publisher. Because of this, it took years until an agreement was reached for Spider-Man to enter the MCU and appear in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War and subsequent adventures.

However, this has also allowed Sony to take the character to new areas that are not (at least not right away) related to the MCU. As a result, there are several similar villain movies in development, including the Venom saga as well as the excellent animated feature Into The Spider-Verse and its imminent sequel. Though specifics are still unclear, there is speculation that Sony is now trying to develop its own interwoven Spider-Man world by connecting all these strands now that Spider-MCU Man’s commitments have reportedly been fulfilled.

  1. Spider-Man (2002)
  2. Spider-Man 2 (2004)
  3. Spider-Man 3 (2007)
  4. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
  5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
  6. Captain America: Civil War (2016)
  7. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
  8. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
  9. Venom (2018)
  10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
  11. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
  12. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
  13. Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
  14. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
  15. Morbius (April 2022)
  16. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) (October 2022)
  17. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two) (2023)
  18. Kraven The Hunter (2023)
  19. Into The Spider-Verse: Spider-Woman (TBC)
