Actor Joseph Quinn claims he would back up a “Justice for Eddie” campaign by Stranger Things fans, after the heartbreaking conclusion of volume 2 of season 4 of the show.
The first season of the popular Netflix show written by Matt and Ross Duffer presented viewers with Barbara “Barb” Holland, Nancy Wheeler’s kind BF who was kidnapped by the Demogorgon. The implicit Stranger Things practice of bringing up fan-favorite supporting characters, then writing them off in the same season, was established at this point. Demodogs ripped off Bob Newby in season 2, and Grigori blasted Alexei in season 3, leaving him to perish. Eddie “The Freak” Munson, a beloved metalhead played by Quinn, becomes Stranger Things‘ newest casualty in volume 2 of season 4.
While the spellcaster pursues Max, Steve, Nancy, and Robin proceed to the Upside Down‘s Creel House to kill Vecna/Henry/body One’s in the season 4 finale, “Chapter Nine: The Piggyback.” Eddie plays Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” atop his trailer to detract the bat-like beings from the house. When Dustin and Eddie are overpowered and Dustin flees back to Hawkins, Eddie makes the decision to buy his buddies more time by luring the creatures farther away. Ultimately, Eddie passes away in Dustin’s arms; even though he was never able to graduate, it was definitely his year. Quinn has now clarified whether he’d back up a campaign “Justice for Barb,” which was started by fans who were furious that Hawkins residents didn’t appear to be concerned about the character’s vanquishment.
Quinn discusses the unavoidable “Justice for Eddie” fan campaign in an interview, where he is questioned over his readiness for people to support his role on social networks in the aftermath of “Justice for Barb” and “Justice for Bob.” He said, “Well, I guess we could join with justice for Barb and Bob. Yeah, take ’em down.”
In season 4 of Stranger Things, Eddie developed into a beloved character, engaged in banter with the Party, and received a full character journey, which cannot be said of Barb. After leaving Chrissy Cunningham, Eddie transformed into the hero he never imagined he might have become, giving his life for the town that despised him. His passing in Stranger Things is especially tragic because locals in Hawkins remember him as a demonic cult leader and serial killer. Therefore, “Justice for Eddie” may entail deleting the Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast’s name in season 5, as opposed to “Justice for Barb,” which signified season 2 acknowledged and mourned Barb.
The metaphorical dam between Hawkins and the Upside Down is ruptured by Max’s “death” in the last moments of Stranger Things season 4. The general population hears about it as an unparalleled natural calamity on the news. The people of Hawkins and the remaining of the world, as well as Mike, Dustin, and Lucas’ parents, won’t have to wait much to discover the truth about the creatures from a parallel dimension. The Hellfire Club and Eddie Munson might feel vindicated in light of this. The disappointment of those who wanted to see Eddie play guitar, tend to his sheep, or eventually receive his graduation in season 5 won’t be lessened by “Justice for Eddie,” though. Even if the remaining characters in Stranger Things are forgotten, fans won’t.
