According to insiders, Anthony Mackie has signed an agreement to play Captain America 4 and will play the shield for the first time.
Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige maintains the contents of the film under wraps, and it’s unclear whether Sebastian Stan, who co-starred with Mackie in the well-received Marvel Studios Disney+ short series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will be involved.
This is Mackie’s vehicle, according to the unofficial title, and it’s a watershed point in his career for the Juilliard-educated actor, who has been a bright spot in every picture he’s featured in. That includes The Hurt Locker, 8 Mile, and The Banker, as well as his roles as Falcon, Captain America‘s wingman who was hand-picked by the superhero to succeed him. The narrative revolved around his struggle to adopt a heroic identity. Beginning with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Mackie played Falcon in six Marvel flicks.
Malcolm Spellman, the lead writer and author of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and series staff writer Dalan Musson are collaborating on the script for Captain America 4. This isn’t the top-secret project that my colleague Justin Kroll hinted at, which may bring Chris Evans back into the fold. Mackie’s picture has yet to be assigned a director.
