CeeDee Lamb’s toughness was on full display during the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The wide receiver took some hard hits to his shoulder but refused to be taken out of the game. Despite the pain, Lamb battled through, finishing the game and making it clear that it would take much more than that to sideline him.
“It’s more so pain, obviously the tolerance, range of motion is all there. I battled throughout the whole game…” Lamb explained about his shoulder. “Granted I didn’t play the way I wanted to, but it is what it is, it’s going to take a little more to get me out.”
As the Cowboys head into a crucial Week 10 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, Lamb is continuing to work on his recovery. He’s been progressively improving over the week, even running again in practice. But don’t expect him to be wearing a shoulder brace on game day.
“Nah, I don’t do all that,” Lamb said, showing his toughness and determination.
Lamb’s grit is a reflection of the mentality the Cowboys are embracing, despite a tough 3-5 start to the season. With injuries to key players like Dak Prescott, many teams might struggle with confidence. But Lamb remains firm in his belief that the Cowboys can still turn things around.
“We still got to have that fighter’s mentality, and I’m a firm believer in it,” Lamb stated. “Obviously, you’re going to get hit in the mouth at some point, it’s all about how you respond.”
Lamb will need that mentality in Sunday’s game against an Eagles team that has won four straight. With Prescott sidelined by a hamstring injury, the Cowboys will rely on Cooper Rush to lead the offense. Lamb has been working hard to build chemistry with Rush, and he’s confident in his backup quarterback’s ability.
“We’ve connected, we’ve taken a lot of reps outside of practice just talking, communicating, getting on the same page,” Lamb said. “I feel like that’s very important with the situation that’s coming up and I’m happy for him, we know what Coop can do, the confidence is still there.”
Rush has been solid in his previous starts for Dallas, going 5-1, and he’ll need to rise to the occasion again to help snap the Cowboys’ three-game losing streak.
“I know [Rush]’s ready to go out there and deliver,” Lamb said. “I know he’s prepared all week and can’t wait to see it.”
With Lamb’s leadership and Rush stepping in as QB1, the Cowboys still believe they can fight their way back into contention. The question remains: will their “fighter’s mentality” be enough to overcome the adversity?
