The Dallas Cowboys’ five-game losing streak hasn’t shaken their commitment to Cooper Rush as their starting quarterback, despite growing criticism about the offense’s inability to score points.
On Tuesday, head coach Mike McCarthy reaffirmed Rush’s role for Week 12, brushing aside speculation of a potential switch to backup Trey Lance. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones also backed Rush during a radio appearance earlier in the day, emphasizing the organization’s stance.
While Rush retains his starting position, McCarthy hinted at incorporating Lance into a limited package of plays, potentially shaking up the offense.

Rush showed marginal improvement in Monday night’s 34-10 loss to the Houston Texans, completing 32 of 55 passes for 354 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. This was a step up from his Week 10 performance against the Eagles, where he managed just 45 passing yards on 13 completions.
Meanwhile, Lance has seen little action this season, throwing for 21 yards and one interception in a brief Week 10 appearance. The team’s hesitation to hand Lance the reins suggests they lack confidence in his readiness to lead the offense.
With Dallas sitting at 3-7 and winless at home, the Cowboys’ season appears to be slipping away. The decision to stick with Rush signals the team’s desire to maintain stability, even as they face mounting pressure to turn things around.
