The Dallas Cowboys are facing significant challenges on their defensive line due to a string of injuries. Key players Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Marshawn Kneeland have all missed time recently, leaving the team in need of reinforcements.
As the NFL trade deadline approaches, speculation is mounting about possible moves to strengthen the roster. One intriguing option is former No. 2 overall pick Chase Young. According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, the New Orleans Saints are likely to become sellers as the deadline approaches, and Young is a standout name that could be on the trading block.
Knox believes the Cowboys would be an ideal fit for Young, given their current defensive struggles. He notes that Young has a connection to the Cowboys’ coaching staff; he worked under defensive line coach Jeff Zgonina during his time with the Washington Commanders in 2022 and 2023. This familiarity could ease Young’s transition to Dallas, should a trade occur.
“The Dallas Cowboys, who are dealing with the injuries of DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons, should also be interested. Cowboys defensive line coach Jeff Zgonina coached Young with the Commanders in 2022 and 2023,” Knox stated.
Young burst onto the scene as the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, earning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award with 7.5 sacks in his debut season. Although he has struggled to maintain that level of performance, he remains a capable player who can generate pressure and defend against the run. Notably, he is currently signed to a one-year deal, meaning any commitment from the Cowboys would be short-term.
While it may be uncertain if Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will make a move for Young, the potential addition could significantly bolster a struggling defensive line. With the pressure mounting to improve the team’s performance, Young’s experience and skill set present an appealing option for the Cowboys as they look to solidify their defense moving forward.
