The Dallas Cowboys, dealing with significant injuries at wide receiver and defensive end, have made moves to strengthen their depth by signing wide receiver Seth Williams and defensive end Luiji Vilain to their practice squad, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.
Dallas worked out several players before making their decision, including receivers Denzel Mims, Dante Pettis, and Chad Cota, with quarterback Max Duggan throwing to them. On the defensive side, they evaluated Vilain and Shaka Toney.
In addition to the practice squad signings, the Cowboys will promote veteran defensive end Carl Lawson to the 53-man roster to help fill the gap left by multiple injuries. The team has lost Sam Williams, Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and rookie Marshawn Kneeland at the defensive end position. Kneeland, Williams, and Lawrence have been placed on injured reserve, with Lawrence and Kneeland expected to return later this season. Parsons is eyeing a Week 8 comeback after the Cowboys’ bye week in Week 7.
At receiver, the Cowboys signed Williams to help mitigate the absence of Brandin Cooks, who is on injured reserve due to a knee infection that developed after a procedure.
The Cowboys hope these additions will help stabilize their roster as they navigate injuries heading into a critical stretch of the season.
