Darren Woodson, one of the greatest defenders in Dallas Cowboys history, has taken another significant step toward earning a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. On Wednesday, the Hall announced its 25 modern-era semifinalists for the 2025 class, with Woodson securing his spot among football’s elite candidates.
Woodson, who was also a finalist for the Hall of Fame last year, remains the Cowboys’ all-time leader in tackles (1,350). Across 178 games and 12 seasons, he earned five Pro Bowl nods, three All-Pro selections, and three Super Bowl rings. His immense contributions to the Cowboys earned him a place in the team’s Ring of Honor in 2015.
The Path to Canton
The semifinalist list was pared down from an initial group of 50 nominees. It features six first-year candidates, including notable names like two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning, Defensive Player of the Year honorees Luke Kuechly and Terrell Suggs, postseason kicking legend Adam Vinatieri, safety Earl Thomas, and guard Marshal Yanda.
Woodson joins a strong contingent of returning semifinalists, including Antonio Gates, Jared Allen, Torry Holt, Reggie Wayne, and Fred Taylor, as well as fellow defensive standouts Rodney Harrison and Eric Allen.
From here, the selection committee will narrow the list to 15 finalists before the final voting process ahead of the Super Bowl. Candidates must receive at least 80% of the vote to secure their place in the Hall, with three to five modern-era players typically inducted each year.
Woodson’s Lasting Legacy
Woodson’s Hall of Fame resume is undeniable. Known for his relentless tackling, versatility, and leadership, he was a cornerstone of the Cowboys’ defense during their dominant 1990s run. He played a pivotal role in securing three Super Bowl titles, anchoring one of the most successful eras in franchise history.
While Woodson has been waiting for his moment in Canton, this latest recognition brings him one step closer to the NFL’s ultimate honor.
The Road Ahead
Finalists for the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 will be announced in January, with the official inductees revealed ahead of the Super Bowl. With his storied career and contributions to the game, Darren Woodson’s candidacy continues to inspire Cowboys fans, who eagerly await his long-overdue induction.
For now, the wait continues, but the star safety’s path to football immortality feels closer than ever.
