The Dallas Cowboys took advantage of their recent bye week to address ongoing challenges that have plagued their season thus far. While a week off is usually a time for relaxation, it also provided an opportunity for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and star receiver CeeDee Lamb to work on improving their timing and chemistry on the field.
“We love our bye weeks. We took advantage of it. We got right… we used every opportunity to get better, and I feel like it’s going to show,” Lamb told the media after Thursday’s practice, as reported by The Athletic‘s Jon Machota.
After a tough start to the season, the Cowboys have faced criticism for inconsistent play, including some pointed comments from Cowboys legend Troy Aikman, who recently called out Dallas’ receivers for “lazy” route-running. Aikman’s comments seemed to resonate, motivating Prescott and Lamb to focus on precise timing and execution.
“We got on some routes, and obviously, the timing is everything,” Lamb shared, emphasizing the need for fine-tuning their plays.
Prescott’s season statistics underscore the need for improved passing connections. With 1,602 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and six interceptions, the Cowboys QB currently ranks in the NFL’s top 10 in passing yards, while Lamb is also among the league’s top 10 in receiving yards with 467 on 32 catches. The duo’s shared focus on tighter timing could make a noticeable impact on the Cowboys’ offensive game.
Fans will get to see the results of this extra work when the Cowboys take on the 49ers this Sunday. The matchup kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC, with streaming available on Peacock. This primetime game will showcase whether the dedication Prescott and Lamb invested during their time off will pay dividends on the field.
