Keanu Reeves’ most well-known part is still Neo in The Matrix trilogy, with The Matrix Resurrections set to be released on December 22nd, with Reeves returning his character after 18 years. The Matrix Resurrections debuted in the United States on December 18 and is expected to gross more than $100 million at the domestic box office. Due to the comeback of audiences to theaters, the movie will be concurrently broadcast on HBO Max in December 2022, making it Warner Bros.’ final feature utilizing this approach.
In an interview with comicbook.com, Reeves says that he sat with Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios in 2019 to consider a position in the MCU, but that no progress has been made. Reeves continues, “We have met, and Kevin Feige‘s a cool cat. Yeah. But no, we don’t have anything, gotta find something.” The interview was shared by Reeves with his The Matrix Resurrections co-star Carrie-Anne Moss, who is also renowned for her portrayal as Jeri Hogarth in Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix.
Reeves’ participation in the MCU would not be his first effort at portraying a superhero, with the cult film Constantine in 2005 taking the title. Reeves also had a key part in CD Projekt Red’s controversial Cyberpunk 2077, which attracted widespread attention in the video games industry due to its incomplete status. Given his prominence, Reeves’ picture was prominently utilized in the game’s marketing and advertising.
Due to Reeves’ high demand and tight schedule, it’s unclear when he’ll feature in the MCU. Reeves’ fame extends beyond the films in which he performs. His image for being approachable and nice to fans led to him being popular around the world through memes and articles about his laid-back lifestyle. Reeves is a fan of the MCU, complimenting the movies and creatives involved, but with his dedication to John Wick 4 and The Matrix Resurrections, audiences will have to wait and see whether Reeves will join the Marvel club.
