Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Animation and Streaming, shared with ComicBook.com that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will take fans back to the roots of the character. He described the series as a homage to the Steve Ditko era, focusing on a young Peter Parker juggling high school life, caring for his aunt, and his duties as a superhero—all while struggling financially.
“I mean, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is amazing, to say the least. I think it’s really going to surprise people. It is very much like a cut from that Steve Ditko era of the comics. It’s Peter Parker back in high school just trying to make it work, take care of his aunt, completely broke, and having to be a superhero,” shared an enthusiastic Winderbaum.
“It’s so essentially Spider-Man, and what Jeff Trammell, the creator of that show, did, which I think people are going to love, is he built this ensemble of characters around Peter that you fall in love with,” he added.
Marvel’s recent Spider-Man films have presented a new cinematic perspective that is different from traditional comic book stories, where Holland’s Peter Parker gets access to Iron Man’s technology, and undergoes several mentors like Tony Stark, Nick Fury, and Doctor Strange.
