Since you’re a die-hard Star Wars enthusiast, a three-hour film with massive spacecraft and awesome lightsabers should be more than plenty to keep you entertained. Despite having excellent visuals, a large cast, and a large studio expense, The Rise of Skywalker came up short of practically everyone’s expectations.
Viewers are posting their unique headcanons for Episode 9 and the next Star Wars saga as a way to survive. Thankfully, series like The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars are delivering the Star Wars stories that audiences have been waiting for. We’ll just sit around, pondering the heinous Jedi lures on Finn. Consider taking a look at the list below to see which headcanons from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker you like.
#1 A Scene Where Kylo Ren And His Knights Fought Together

“There should have been a scene of Kylo Ren and his knights fighting together.”
#2 Ben Should’ve Lived
Source: u/YamanekoBlues
“Ben should have lived.
I’m coming at this from the standpoint of meaning. Palpatine is defeated, and Rey takes the lightsabers to Tatooine (where she’s never been) to the Lars Homestead (which she has no connection to) and takes the Skywalker name (….why?). Instead of Rey, have Ben do it. Rey dies in his arms, the only one who has ever cared for him. Palpatine and his lineage is dead, the Sith story is complete. Ben now has to live with the horrible things he has done and the fact that nobody who loved him — either as family or unconditionally — is still alive. Chewie, I guess. But that’s his atonement for what he’s done.
So what does he do? He takes his family’s lightsabers and goes back to Tatooine, where the Saga began, and lives out his days as a hermit at the Lars homestead staring at the twin suns like his uncle and grandfather before him. In a sense, the wayward Skywalker is home, their Saga is complete (but you can pull cameos from Adam Driver long into the future if needed), and the story has ended on a tragic but meaningful note.
On top of this, she can call herself whatever she wants, but Rey is still a Palpatine. She didn’t really make any firm choices like Luke did when he threw down his lightsaber and/or learn to control her dark impulses (or emotions in general). So by definition the Palpatine Saga — which was ripped apart — isn’t over. With Rey alive the story hasn’t ended.”
#3 A Confrontation Between Kylo And Anakin
Source: u/AndrewBurt120
“It would have been amazing to see Anakin speak to his grandson when he brings Rey back.”
#4 Rey Should’ve Been The Spunky Thief/Mechanic
Source: u/ScionN7
“Rey would’ve been a more fun and endearing character as the spunky scavenger who can tinker, repair, hack, and infiltrate. She should’ve been the Thief of the party. I found her to be the most likeable during the first half of The Force Awakens.”
#5 Finn Served No More Purpose After ‘The Last Jedi’
Source: u/Ford117
“This may be an unpopular opinion but while I seriously love the character of Finn, he should have died in The Last Jedi. This is the moment his arc ended. He had defeated Chrome Dome and after years of questioning his loyalty, he found a cause he would die to help.
Finn is one of my favorite parts of the ST, and when he was about to die I was in the theater like “Wow, they actually had the guts to do this.” It was emotional, and it would have been a satisfying conclusion. In VII he learns to care about someone (Rey) and then VIII he learns to care about a cause worth dying for.
And then… Rose saves him (somehow) and then delivers some corny line about saving what we love. I say this as a The Last Jedi defender but man that was so, so unsatisfying.”
#6 The Old Lady On Tatooine At The End Of ‘TROS’ Knew Luke
Source: @Ganon136
“In my headcanon, I kind of wonder if the old lady at the end of The Rise of Skywalker is actually one of Luke’s old friends from Tosche Station, Camie Marstrap, many years later. Most people don’t know her because she was only in a deleted scene from A New Hope, but her character is canon.
It would be a wonderful nod to some original trilogy goodness that Lucas ended up cutting, but a deep cut enough for fans to know she ties back to that original Luke storyline from ‘77.
Clearly Tatooine’s climate—dry, twin-sunned, and with coarse, rough sand which gets everywhere—ages you prematurely. Obi-Wan aged 32 years in 19 on Tatooine. Uncle Owen aged 30 and Aunt Beru aged 35 (these are all going by actors’ ages).”
#7 Finn Should’ve Been Utilized More
Source: @dpatelridley
“Rey was supposed to be a Jedi related to Skywalker or Kenobi legacy while Finn was the perfect “nobody from nowhere” that becomes a Jedi. I said what I said.”
#8 Rey Should’ve Been An Antagonist
Source: u/Jakkubus
“Rey behaves fits more like a Sith than actual Jedi. She has serious anger issues second only to Kylo Ren’s infantile tantrums and over the course of The Last Jedi she lashes out at both Luke and Snoke. That unbrindled passion along with her desire to belong should make her an easy target for Dark Side’s corrupting influence and yet almost everyone seems to acknowledge her as a paragon of the Light Side and an exemplary Jedi.
Moreover if she was an apprentice of Snoke, her lack of own agency as well as her yearning for parental figure would have worked much better and actually have an impact on the narrative instead of being an irrelevant traits. It would also leave some place for character development, which in TFA and TLJ is pretty lacking. Instead of being a static stock character already complete from the start, she could gradually learn how to be independent and actually earn her strength.
Rey’s foil, Kylo Ren, also would’ve be better if he was on the other side. A young but arrogant Jedi ostracized due to his connection to Darth Vader that tries his best to overcome his anger would be much more interesting than a pampered pseudo-Sith.”
#9 The Title Should’ve Been ‘The Last Hope’
Source: u/Zcorruption
“In The Last Jedi, Rey stands over Luke and says Kylo Ren still has good in him, and if he could be turned it would sway the tide in the other direction. Her final line to Luke before leaving is, “he’s our last hope.” I feel considering the whole 9 film saga and the fact Luke was the new hope it would have been fitting to call episode 9 the last hope as most of the movie was about Ben until the end.”
#10 The Villain Should Not Have Been A Skywalker
Source: u/kaliedel
“I keep going back to the creative decision (whoever made it) to have the villain be a Skywalker and the hero a no-name. That choice really hampered the protagonist, because the Skywalker name and history brings with it a whole lot of interesting implications, and automatically gives Kylo a bunch of moral questions he has to grapple with. Our hero (Rey) should’ve been the Skywalker (or a Skywalker in addition to the villain), because unless something more intriguing was invented for her, the Skywalker factor is too significant to be matched. It’s a name, legacy, and story that is practically cemented in pop culture. How can Rey compete with that, when it’s assigned all to the villain?”
#11 How Rey’s New Lightsaber Was Forged
Source: supremeprince-bensolo
“She made the lightsaber hilt out of her staff to honour her past as a scavenger and the item that helped her survive all those years she was on her own.
She retrieved Kylo’s lightsaber and healed the cracked kyber crystal. She used that to power her new lightsaber. The blade is yellow because red (it was formerly on the dark side) + green (it was healed and is now on the light side) light combined makes yellow.
The healed crystal symbolises the way in which Rey symbolically killed Kylo Ren and then healed him. He was reborn as Ben Solo just as this crystal has now been reborn as something new.
The lightsaber honours their history and the ability to heal and move on from the past. It is the embodiment of who they are and what together they represent.
Balance.”
#12 Finn And Leia Helped Each Other
Source: @TheFirstOkiro:
“Finn and Leia’s bond was so underrated. According to The Rise Of Skywalker visual guide, Leia saw great potential in Finn and he would go to her to try and learn more about the force because he knew it meant so much to Rey. She lost a son, he lost a family. I bet they helped each other a lot.”
#13 Palpatine’s Grand Plan Wasn’t Complete
Source: u/b_khan0131
“That Palpatine’s “Grand Plan” wasn’t complete in ROTS. His “real” grand plan was the Sith Fleet. I like to believe that, as soon as the Empire was formed, Palpatine began work on the Sith Fleet (which explains why they’re the exact same model as the ISD but bigger). When Palpatine “died” (which was NOT part of his plan) he was able to save himself and continued work on the Final Order, which he had planned from before Episode I.”
#14 Kylo Had The Right Idea, But His Execution Was Off
Source: u/clashquestions
“Rey should have said yes. Obviously this can’t happen because it’s a Star Wars movie, but the only logical course of action for Rey is to join Kylo when he asks in the throne room. That is, if she cares about the lives of those in the rebellion and the galaxy as a whole.
I was honestly convinced this was going to happen until he said rule the galaxy together. She is not into that, but at the moment I think she was a bit disillusioned with her side and a little intrigued by the Dark Side. Or, Rey had an opportunity to make real changes in the galaxy. She can influence the path the First Order takes now, regardless of the terrible deeds they’ve committed. Kylo is not predisposed to commit mass genocide and horrible atrocities. His terrible actions have all been in an attempt to find his place and please his master, to become the next Darth Vader. He no longer cares about any of that. He has killed the past.”
#15 Ben Solo Is Not Dead
Source: u/ChrisX26
“Ben Solo is not necessarily dead. He is trapped in the World Between Worlds. Someday his soul mate and Force Dyad mate, Rey will find him.”
