As the Dallas Cowboys sit at 3-2, they are eyeing a playoff spot in the NFC. However, a challenging schedule and personnel issues have left them in need of reinforcements before the midseason trade deadline on November 5.
While the primary focus should be on bolstering the offense to support Dak Prescott, the defense also requires some adjustments. With flexibility in the salary cap, owner and general manager Jerry Jones should seriously consider making a couple of trades. Here are six players that would make ideal targets for Dallas.
1. Wide Receiver: DeAndre Hopkins, Titans
DeAndre Hopkins is no stranger to changing teams, having played for the Texans, Cardinals, and now the Titans. With Brandin Cooks currently on injured reserve, the Cowboys’ depth at wide receiver has become a concern. Jalen Tolbert has shown promise, but adding a veteran like Hopkins would provide Prescott with more experience and reliability. Hopkins, who is set to become a free agent next summer, could be the perfect fit for Dallas.
2. Wide Receiver: Robert Woods, Texans
Another potential target is Robert Woods, who is also 32. Currently, he is in a backup role with the Texans due to injuries to other players. Woods would add versatility to the Cowboys’ receiving corps and could fill the gap left by Cooks effectively.
3. Running Back: Miles Sanders, Panther
With rookie Jonathon Brooks dealing with injury, the Panthers might be open to trading Miles Sanders, who has fallen to a backup role. The Cowboys have Rico Dowdle, but they could benefit from a dynamic runner like Sanders, especially as Ezekiel Elliott’s effectiveness fades. A change of scenery might also rejuvenate Sanders’ career.
4. Edge Rusher: Haason Reddick, Jets
The Cowboys’ pass rush has taken a hit with injuries to DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons. Haason Reddick, currently holding out from the Jets, could immediately strengthen their front seven with his versatility. At 30, he remains an appealing option for both a trade and a potential re-signing.
5. Safety: Budda Baker, Cardinals
The safety position has been a weak point for the Cowboys, making Budda Baker an attractive trade target. Only 28, Baker has made two Pro Bowls and could provide an immediate upgrade to the secondary. He would also be a candidate for re-signing before hitting free agency in 2025.
6. Safety: Marcus Maye, Dolphins
If the Cowboys prefer a more budget-friendly option, they might consider Marcus Maye, who has stepped up for the Dolphins. With the team focusing on younger talent for the future, Maye could be available. He would add depth next to standout safety Jevon Holland.
