EGOT is one of the greatest achievements one can earn in the entertainment industry. As of 2022, only 17 people have won this title. So what exactly is an EGOT? And who exactly are just one step away from winning it?
The term was coined in the 80s by actor Philip Michael Thomas. EGOT stands for the four great awards: Emmy for television, Grammy for music, Oscar for film, and Tony for theater. Basically, it’s a grand slam of the entertainment business. Now you know why so many celebrities wish to earn an EGOT, let us take a look at those who are one award short of getting this title.
This list features 19 stars who are very close to getting an EGOT. Being so close to an EGOT, it should be no surprise to find big names on this list, such as Elton John. We do have one exception however: John Legend. He earned his much needed Emmy in 2018, making him the second youngest EGOT winner (Robert Lopez is the youngest winner).
