Guy Spams Audio Emojis At A Fake “VISA Agent” And The Scammer Completely Loses It

There’s something oddly satisfying about watching a scammer lose control, especially when they were the ones who initiated the call in the first place. These people dial strangers all day long expecting easy targets, but every so often, they hit someone who is not interested in playing along.

One Reddit user was moments away from ending yet another fake “VISA” call when he noticed a quirky option on his phone. Instead of ignoring it, curiosity took over.

What happened next turned a routine annoyance into an unexpectedly hilarious showdown. Scroll down to see how a few silly sound effects completely derailed a scammer’s script.

A caller has some unexpected fun when a scammer rings just as a new phone feature appears

Tried a new to me phone feature and pissed off a scammer?

This may be more "silly" than "petty."

I just received one of those fake "This is VISA calling" calls that spoof a local number.

I was about to hang up and block when I noticed the phone app said "try audio emojis" So I did.

On my Pixel, you have a handful of emojis that play loud sounds for the emoji - cheering crowds

for the celebrate, fart noise for the poop emoji.

I waited until the scammer connected and spammed him with cheers,

boos and fart noise while the little f__ker tried to give himself a stroke YELLING over the top.

I'd let him get a word in and start again.

It lasted only about 45sec to a minute but I really enjoyed it.

There’s a quiet, universal satisfaction in reclaiming even a sliver of control from someone who tries to take advantage of us. Whether it’s a scammer, a manipulator, or a stranger who assumes we’ll stay silent, moments like these remind people that they aren’t powerless.

In the OP’s case, it wasn’t just about making noise on a phone call, it was about pushing back against an intrusion and finding humor where frustration usually lives.

At the emotional core of this story is a tension many readers can relate to: the shock of being targeted by a scammer mixed with the desire to do anything that breaks the script. The OP wasn’t just pressing buttons; they were asserting a kind of playful defiance.

Scam calls often create a sense of violation. Even when we know they’re fake, they tap into fear, urgency, and distrust. Responding with audio emojis, especially ones as silly as cheers and fart sounds, becomes a way to reframe the moment from vulnerability to empowerment.

What makes this story interesting is how perspective shifts the meaning of OP’s behavior. Many people would simply hang up and block the number. Some might freeze, panic, or worry. But others, especially those who cope with stress through humor, find joy in flipping the script.

Research shows that humor styles differ: some forms (affiliative or self-enhancing) can strengthen resilience and well-being, whereas other forms (aggressive or self-defeating) may worsen stress or anxiety.

The OP’s reaction leans more toward adaptive humor, a spontaneous way to reclaim agency without causing real harm.

Psychological and health research supports the idea that humor and laughter can have tangible stress-relieving effects. For example, according to Verywell Mind, laughter can lower levels of stress hormones like cortisol, give the brain a break from negativity, and shift perspective to something lighter.

Additionally, a recent article from Psychology Today argues that humor, especially “self-enhancing” or “affiliative” humor helps foster psychological flexibility and resilience even after betrayal or trauma.

Interpreting that insight in context: the OP’s choice to spam the scammer with goofy noises wasn’t just mischief; it functioned as a mini-reset. Instead of staying tense, upset, or anxious during the scam call, they disrupted the emotional weight of the moment.

By reframing the call as a moment of absurdity, they diffused the stress, preserved their calm, and regained a sense of control. That aligns with expert understanding: humor can be a coping tool that neutralizes threats, reduces emotional arousal, and restores agency.

If there’s a takeaway here, it’s that small, harmless acts of reclaiming power can be surprisingly healing even if they seem trivial or silly. Whether it’s hanging up, blocking, or responding with joyful absurdity, the goal is the same: protect your peace in whatever way feels right, as long as it keeps you safe.

Perhaps next time someone tries to prey on fear or urgency, a little levity might just offer the best defense.

Here are the comments of Reddit users:

These Redditors loved messing with scammers using Pixel audio emojis or call screener features

DemandRemote3889 − I noticed this on my pixel the other day

and immediately started calling my son and using the fart emoji, then hanging up lol

[Reddit User] − Immediately looks at Pixel phones

Historical_Carpet262 − I love the audio emojis!

Since they added the call screener I haven't answered any scam calls in years, but now I may have to.

jitasquatter2 − I saw that new feature, but I didn't know that it did. Good to know!

That being said, the call screening on my pixel works really well

and I don't know the last time a spam call actually made my phone ring.

Payaso_Mixto97 − Pixel user here!

My brother hates the audio emojis,

he will be telling me something glorious about himself and I'll do the clapping one.

These users shared elaborate, funny stories to confuse or scare scammers until they hung up

EastAd7676 − A couple of years ago my dad and I were inspecting some woodlands

that we had just purchased and we’re doing some target practice with our pistols.

He received a call from a “Medicare” scam. We started laughing and he answered the call.

The guy on the other end started his spiel and my dad starts acting like he’s confused;

not knowing his name, claiming he’s being held against his will, etc.

He winks at me and I start yelling “Give me your cash old man! Give it to me!”

Then I fired several rounds at the target. My dad starts yelling that he’s hurt.

The caller hung up really quick.

Fedupintx − I've been constantly getting "new plan for Medicare" calls for 4 years,

even though I'm still 2 years from qualifying.

My favorite is to confirm my age as 90, then, in my best o"old man" voice, s

tart pestering them about "boner meds", and yelling "Honey,

get those legs up in the air, this guy's getting me boner meds!

"If it's a live person right away, I typically use, "Where you been man?

I've been calling you, I need help moving this body.

There's blood all over the f__king place..." They always hang up by that point.

2014ChevyCaptiva − With scammers, I have been telling them that before they continue, I have to tell them something.

I say, “The current time is 4:05 PM and I charge $1.99 per minute to listen to you.

Your calling me is considered a binding contract. Please continue. ” There is usually an awkward silence before they hang up.

This user cheered on the approach of trolling scammers until they hang up

BlossomingPosy17 − THEY ARE AMAZING!!

Every spammer I've gotten gets a couple of these, until they hang up. Lol

This tiny tale of phone-based rebellion shows how even the smallest tech feature can turn a frustrating moment into a comedy win.

Some readers loved the creativity, while others warned about interacting with scammers at all. Still, the emotional payoff was clear: sometimes the best weapon against digital nonsense is laughter.

Would you do the same if a scammer called you, or would you play it safe and hang up? And if your phone had fart-powered emoji sounds… could you resist using them? Drop your takes below!
