Summary:
- Hugh Jackman initially announced he was finished with the Wolverine role after Logan (2017), but later regretted his decision after seeing the first Deadpool film.
- Deadpool’s new costume features a lighter red and larger eye circles, echoing his 1990s comic appearance.
- In the early stages of the film’s development, there was interest from several actors, including Jackman, to have their characters break the fourth wall alongside Deadpool.
Liev Schreiber, known for his role as Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, has explained why he did not reprise his role in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Despite his prominent role in the earlier film, Schreiber was absent from the latest MCU installment, which featured numerous cameos.
In an interview with Collider, Schreiber shared that although he was flattered by fan interest in his return, he chose not to participate due to the physical demands of the role.
He said, “To be honest, it’s a lot of work getting your body up to that point. I know I watched Hugh [Jackman] get himself ready again, and I thought, ‘I’m okay to sit by the sidelines.'”
Schreiber’s portrayal of Sabretooth established him as Wolverine’s half-brother, a relationship not found in the original Marvel Comics.
Given the rigorous training Jackman undergoes for his Wolverine roles, Schreiber’s decision to step back was understandable.
While there might not have been a need for Schreiber’s Sabretooth to undergo the same physical transformation as Jackman’s Wolverine, any role, no matter how brief, still demands considerable preparation.
With Hugh Jackman, now 55, known for his intense workout routines for each Wolverine role, Schreiber’s recent work has been less action-oriented, making the physical preparation for a brief appearance a significant challenge.
Although Schreiber’s Sabretooth didn’t appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, there remains potential for him to join future MCU projects, such as Avengers: Secret Wars.
