Online debates to see which fictional character is stronger have been a hot topic for generations of comics and movie fans. In the 90s, we always argued to see whether Superman or Son Goku was stronger, but in this day and age, another Supe-like character has come into play: Homelander, sparkling another burning discussion to see which version of the caped warrior will dominate the others
Ever since the debut of The Boys on Prime Video, fans have been screaming to see an ultimate battle between Superman and Homelander to see who will be the strongest Supe. Well, both sides have their own reasons, but let’s listen to the perspective of a Superman actor himself, shall we?
Jack Quaid, known for his roles in both The Boys and My Adventures with Superman, recently shared his insights on who’d win in a fictional face-off between Superman and Homelander. Quaid’s unique perspective comes from his experience portraying Hughie Campbell in The Boys and voicing Clark Kent in My Adventures with Superman. Since the actor stars in both shows, he knows too well both characters’ strengths and weaknesses.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, the Superman star was asked about his take on the potential showdown. He firmly believes the Man of Steel, with his abilities, should take the cake, stating:
“He has to, right? Like if he doesn’t, we’re all in trouble. I think my particular version of Superman has a lot of growing to do, and he still needs to discover some more of the powers that we all know are in there but give him a few seasons, and he can take Homelander, for sure,” said Quaid, though he believed his version of Supes still has a lot of room to grow before defeating Homelander.
Superman vs. Homelander has been one of the most popular troupes recently, but the majority of fans, even The Boys included, would agree with Quaid that the Man of Steel has the upper hand in this battle. While the two have similar strengths and abilities, Kal-El can draw his power from the Sun, making him several times stronger than his The Boys counterpart.
Additionally, while Homelander has only fought fairly easy opponents so far and spends most of the time bullying weaker people, Superman has clashed hands against many powerful foes, some are even more powerful than him such as Darkseid, Doomsday, and Brainiac. With his overwhelming battle experience, no wonder many DC and even The Boys’ fans will back the Man of Steel in this intriguing battle debate.
Another character often thrown into these superhero debates is Omni-Man from Invincible. Similar to Homelander, Omni-Man possesses powers akin to Superman’s but with a much darker twist. Akin to Homelander, Omni-Man is comparable to Superman in terms of his powers, but has a very dark side that makes him more of a supervillain than a genuine superhero.
Besides, unlike the Big Blue Boy Scout, Omni-Man has been trained to kill since birth, and had to fight countless other Viltrumites and other high-class species for survival for decades.
Invincible‘s creator, Robert Kirkman, has even chimed in on these debates, controversially stating that Omni-Man would easily dispatch both Homelander and Superman, a claim that receives mixed reactions from the superhero communities worldwide, as expected.
“That discussion usually ends with people on the internet mad at me because I say that Superman is lame and that Omni-Man would easily beat Superman, so I didn’t want to say that again and get people mad at me all over again, even though it’s true,” Kirkman spoke to IGN.
As the fan debates rage on, the next seasons of both The Boys and My Adventures with Superman are eagerly awaited, with The Boys set to return for its fourth season on June 13, 2024, and My Adventures with Superman premiering its second season on May 26 on Adult Swim.
