Flyer Gets Petty Revenge On Seat-Stealing Passenger

OP, a young traveler who rarely flies, cherishes window seats for the view. On a recent flight, a woman took OP’s assigned seat and refused to move, calling her a “kid” and claiming superiority.

Instead of arguing, OP got petty revenge by leaning over her to see the window and delaying deplaning, stressing her about a tight connection. Was OP wrong for this approach?

This story dives into unfairness, petty revenge, and flight etiquette. Did OP go too far? Let’s explore the details and see what the online community thinks.

Flyer Gets Petty Revenge On Seat-Stealing Passenger

'Insist I’m in the wrong seat and refuse to move? I can play that game.'

I don’t travel very often, and it’s even more uncommon for me to fly. Therefore, when I do fly, I always like to get a window seat.

So last week, when I was boarding my flight, I was frustrated when I came to my seat and this lady was in my seat.

She and her friend were sitting in the window and the middle seat, while the aisle seat was open.

Thinking she was just confused, I asked her, “Hey ma’am, I’m sorry, but I think you’re in my seat”.

“This is my seat, kid, you’re reading it wrong” (I’m in my early twenties and definitely have a baby face).

I’m kind of mad now, and I go to show her my boarding pass. “Actually, I have my ticket right here, and it says_”.

She interrupts me. “I do this way more than you do, kid, sit down in your seat there”.

I am livid, but I don’t want to hold the whole plane up, so I quietly sit down and simmer.

While I’m sitting there, I overhear her and her friend mention how tight their connecting flight is in DFW and how they’re worried they won’t get off the plane quickly...

Check mate you seat-jacking b**ch. So I sit back and enjoy the flight.

Anytime I want to look out the window, I careen over their laps in a way that is super uncomfortable for everyone because I will be getting the view I...

Then, when we land, I get my petty revenge. I take my sweet time getting my bag out from under my seat.

Stand up slowly and stretch. And insist that the two rows behind us go before I do, seeing as the two worst players of aviation musical chairs in the nation...

I walk slowly down the aisle and shake both flight attendants’ hands on my way out. The girls RAN out of there as soon as we rounded the corner. I...

This story highlights conflicts over personal rights in shared spaces like airplanes, where disrespect and entitlement can spark tension. The woman was wrong to take OP’s seat and dismiss her rudely.

Psychologist Dr. Susan Krauss Whitbourne notes, “Conflicts in public spaces like flights often stem from disrespecting others’ rights” (Psychology Today).

OP’s petty revenge was creative but avoidable if she had involved a flight attendant, who are trained to resolve seating disputes fairly.

OP should consider a direct approach in the future to avoid prolonged frustration. This case underscores the importance of asserting personal rights and effective communication.

See what others had to share with OP:

Reddit supports OP’s petty revenge, praising its creativity, but many urge involving flight attendants next time to reclaim the seat immediately. Some share similar experiences of being displaced. Here’s a roundup of reactions.

Many support OP but suggest flight attendants.

jeb500jp − I would ask the flight attendant to sort it out. They should be able to get you the seat you reserved.

chingy_meh_wingy − Yeah, shouldn't have just sat down. Get the flight attendant. She will tell them to move.

If it does escalate, they either get kicked off the flight or you end up in first class.

Some share similar experiences.

gnilmit − Someone sat in my assigned seat in the movie theater about 15 years ago, and I'm still salty that I didn't do anything about it.

I still think about it all the time. I'm much older and bitchier now, and I just PRAY someone tries this b**lshit with me now.

They're going to feel all the wrath I've been holding in for 15 years. Back then, the conversation went:

Me: "Excuse me, sir, but you are in my seat." Him: "Does it really matter?" Me: "Uh, no, I guess not."

Then I had to sit in a s**tty seat with a pillar blocking most of the screen. On my f**king birthday. Because I couldn't stand up for myself.

Nowadays, he'd ask me if it really mattered, and I'd explain to him just how much it f**king mattered and tell him to get his ass out of the chair...

Uh, I guess what I'm trying to say is, Next time SAY something, get a flight attendant or SOMETHING. Don't let these assholes get away with this nonsense! Also, I...

readinganything − I hate when people do this. Like I have to pay more for the seat.

Someone lied to me before and said she wanted to switch, and hers was a window too, and she just wants to be with her friends.

I gave up my seat and walked up to find out that hers was the middle one... I looked back and said "Hey", but she entirely ignored me. People.

DLS3141 − I have no problems getting the flight attendants involved in situations like this.

I also prefer aisle seats, so not only can I get my preferred seat, I can also play the "Let's Take Our Sweet-Ass Time Getting Off the Plane" game too.

ihugfaces − If your seat was for a window, why didn't you involve the flight attendants?

[Reddit User] − I remember having very little time to make our connecting flight in Toronto.

Worst feeling ever, thinking we'd miss the next flight. This is a very good petty revenge!

A few praise the revenge.

obsessivefandoms − That is beautiful. Even if they managed to make their connecting flight, you gave them quite a scare.

teknoanimal − anytime they need to go to the bathroom, act like you're in a deep sleep

Fredsminimart − It's too bad you can't charge stuff to your seat number...

barryn13087 − If you pay for a window seat, you get your window seat, you paid for it, and it was robbed from you.

The only exceptions I'd make are for kids, pregnant women, or old people.

MrsECummings − Oh, the first thing I'd do is get a flight attendant, especially after that albatross' condescending, entitled attitude about it.

B**ch, you WILL give me my ASSIGNED window seat, and you will like it.

RetroActive80 − I’ll never understand how people are so passive-aggressive about this crap. Get your damn seat.

Hold up, everyone is waiting, and tell them why they are being held up. Or just tell a flight attendant if you don’t like confrontation. It’s really that easy.

morkler − Hopefully your revenge paid off.

nebuNSFW − I'm bothered that you didn't call a flight attendant to sort this out.

Planes are out on the tarmac for quite some time. It wouldn't have been any hold-up for the crew to handle this.

This traveler’s petty revenge, dawdling to delay seat-stealers desperate for a connecting flight—turned a stolen window seat into a lesson in karma, but skipping the flight attendant cost them their view.

Was it a sly win, or a missed chance for justice? With Reddit split between cheers and calls for confrontation, this saga’s a lesson in balancing revenge with resolve. How would you tackle a seat thief? Share your thoughts below!
