Bride-To-Be Bans Her Sisters From Her Wedding, One Of Whom Is Just An Innocence Victim Of Infidelity

A dreamy November wedding faced chaos when a Redditor banned their two sisters and a troublemaking guy to keep the day drama-free. Caught between family loyalty and a pricey venue’s perfection, their bold move sparked a feud hotter than a barbecue.

Rooted in a sisterly rift over an affair, this saga splits Reddit: bridezilla overreach or desperate peace play? Betrayal and heartbreak threaten to upstage twinkling lights and a crisp tux in this soapy clash of love and loyalty.

Bride plans to ban her two sisters from her wedding: one, a victim of infidelity, and the other, who stole her sister’s husband.

'AITA For banning my sisters from my wedding?'

I’m getting married this November and it’s caused a lot of drama.

I’m the youngest of two sisters (Rita and Mari) and they’ve hated each other for years.

Mari was married to Rick, but they got divorced because he began an affair with Rita (they even got married).

This kind of ruined the family because whenever there was an event a fight would always break out.

I want my wedding to be nice, classy and peaceful. My fiancé and I spent a good amount of money.

I don’t want my sisters fighting or throwing food/drinks like they usually do. So I banned them and Rick (I don’t even like him) from my wedding.

Mari and Rita swore to me they would behave, but they’ve said that before. They always promise nothing will happen and then they start fighting.

My venue is expensive and if they damage something it’s coming out of our pocket.

Now they’re accusing me of being a bridezilla and not giving them a chance. AITA?

Wedding is a big occasion that many would want to have it planned perfectly. Even if it includes banning the presentation of troublesome siblings.

This Redditor’s caught in a messy family saga where one sister, Mari, was betrayed by her husband, Rick, who ran off with her other sister, Rita.

Now, the family’s stuck in a cycle of bickering and bottle-throwing at every gathering. Banning all three seems like a drastic move, but is it justified?

First, the Redditor’s got a point: nobody wants their dream wedding ruined by flying mashed potatoes.

Mari and Rita’s track record of chaos, swearing to behave only to end up in a shouting match, makes the ban tempting. The couple’s shelled out serious cash for a venue, and damages could hit their wallet hard.

A 2023 report from The Knot noted that the average wedding cost in the U.S. hit $35,000, so protecting that investment isn’t just practical, it’s survival.

But here’s the twist: Reddit’s divided, with many arguing Mari, the betrayed sister, shouldn’t be lumped in with the cheating duo, Rita and Rick.

Mari’s pain is raw, and who can blame her? Her husband and sister’s affair was a double betrayal, yet the family keeps inviting the cheaters to events, forcing Mari to relive her heartbreak.

As psychologist Dr. John Gottman, a relationship expert, once said, “I believe that by understanding the dynamics of trust and betrayal, we can work to make relationships more trusting. But more than that, we can help people become more trustworthy.”

Gottman’s words highlight why Mari’s still fuming. Nobody’s holding Rita and Rick accountable, and the family’s “neutral” stance feels like a slap in her face. Reddit’s chorus agrees: why punish Mari for reacting to a wound that’s still fresh?

On the flip side, the Redditor’s not wrong to prioritize peace. Family dynamics are tricky, and inviting only Mari risks her lashing out if she’s still raw.

A 2022 study from the Journal of Family Psychology found that unresolved family conflicts can escalate in high-stress settings like weddings. The Redditor’s stuck choosing between their sister’s feelings and a drama-free day.

A middle ground could be inviting Mari with clear boundaries, like a no-drama contract or security on standby, as one Redditor cleverly suggested.

Ultimately, this saga shines a light on broader family loyalty issues. Neutrality can feel like betrayal when someone’s been deeply hurt. The Redditor could try a heart-to-heart with Mari, acknowledging her pain and setting firm ground rules.

Here’s what Redditors had to say:

Some believe the individual is wrong for excluding Mari, the victim of infidelity, instead of the cheaters.

Tantrums_and_Tiaras − YTA because you are punishing the sister who was actually cheated on.

What Rita did was unforgivable and you don't get to return to the family fold after that.

Why can't Mari come to your wedding? If you dont invite two cheaters - Rita and Rick - then there will be no fighting.

I dont get why Rita and Mari are being invited to family events together anyway - its simply not acceptable to cheat with your sisters husband.

It's horrific and even worse as they then married. Rita shouldnt be invited to thanksgiving and Christmas and birthdays or lunch at grandmothers like last week.

Mari shouldn't have to ever see her and her ex husband. Of course she is fuming,

the anger will continue and her family have allowed the victim to have it rubbed in her face and normalized.

I saw OP's comment that Mari threw a bottle at Rick at an event at their grandmothers last week.

But that is because them just being there is horrendous. If OP's family didn't invite the cheaters - then Mari could start to recover and move past this.

If the cheaters are not at the wedding then the two targets of her rightful anger are not there and there is no drama, no bottle throwing, no food throwing.

Sheesh if it was me and my family went on as normal and invited my sister and my ex-husband over to all these joint family occasions

then I'd go no contact with every single one of them. Mari didnt betray her family, Rita did.

WookiewiththeCookie − YTA. And really so is your family. Your poor sister is being forced to just deal with her cheating husband and disgusting sister?

And you think SHE is the one who should be banned from family events? She experienced one of the cruelest things a person can go through,

and her family not only isn’t supporting her, but it basically shoving it in her face??

It’s your wedding, you can do what you want, but my god your sister must be hurting.

[Reddit User] − ESH Why ban Mari? The other one is the one that decided to s__ew and marry her sister‘s husband.

Obviously the guy should not be anywhere near it. Why is he even around your family after what he did? I understand why she threw the bottle at him.

I can’t imagine how she must feel. To have her husband do that with her own sister and the rest of her family does nothing about it.

Rita and Rick should’ve been cut off from everyone for what they did. By not letting Mari go, you’re telling her that

“it’s OK your husband s__ewed our sister. Doesn’t matter as long as it doesn’t affect me.”

You better hope you don’t ever go through something similar. Then you will know how she felt. Feels.

blond1eee − ESH. Why aren’t you answering the questions related to why Mari isn’t being invited?

Is she not the victim here? Her husband and sister cheated. Why would you not cut the sister and cheater out and invite Mari?

Others argue that excluding Mari punishes her unfairly and perpetuates her pain.

frenchEthanhope − I would have said N T A for not wanting to have drama, I completely agree but ESH Why not just inviting Mari?

She's a victim too here, Her husband cheated on her with her sister, no wonder why she can't forgive them.

By still seeing him it's still a constant reminder on what happened. she keeps seeing the man she loved and probably broke her heart at all reunion.

We don't have a lot of information about it but it seems it doesn't bother anyone of your family about that.

By actually not taking side, you actually kind took a side, and it's on the cheaters, need to let go

because they're "family" Why Mari would have to suffer/punished to not be at her sister wedding for being cheated?

Edit to add OP imagine your fiancé cheating on you with Rita, would you have been able to forgive her after some time? Or still being hurt and all?

UnicornCackle − ESH for their treatment of Mari. Not only did her husband cheat on her with her sister (and then marry the sister)

but she's forced to be around those AHs at every family gathering. Why is every family member repeatedly twisting the knife in Mari's back?

Don't any of you care about her? Mari is a teeny tiny AH because she's reacting to the provocation.

She would do much better to cut off every member of your family who doesn't give a f__k about her.

Some suggest banning only the cheaters to avoid drama and support Mari.

TDallstars − NTA and hire security and give them photos to make sure they don’t enter

[Reddit User] − I’d have banned the two cheaters, not the sister who was their victim,

unless she’s got a history of behaving badly even when they aren’t around.

the_one_54321 − ESH. Ban the cheaters, not the other one.

Some seek clarification on why Mari is excluded or suggest her behavior may justify the decision.

[Reddit User] − INFO : why not invite Mari only?

This Redditor’s wedding dilemma is a masterclass in family chaos: two sisters, one messy affair, and a dream day hanging in the balance.

Banning everyone might keep the peace, but it’s left Mari feeling like the odd one out.

Do you think the Redditor’s ultimatum was fair, or are they accidentally siding with the cheaters? How would you juggle family loyalty and a picture-perfect wedding? Share your hot takes with us!
