Woman Thought He Was Her Soulmate, Then He Left Without Explaining Why

Heartbreak can be painful enough on its own, but it becomes even harder when the person you lost is still part of your everyday life.

Moving on is already difficult, and having to see reminders of that relationship can make the healing process feel almost impossible.

The original poster (OP) never expected a casual connection to become something so meaningful.

After two years together, she believed she had found a deep emotional bond with someone who called her his soulmate and made her feel loved.

However, everything changed when he suddenly asked for space and later said she was no longer worth the risk.

Read on to discover how OP is trying to cope after losing the relationship and facing her ex and his new partner at work.

Woman’s two-year relationship ends suddenly when the man she loves says she is no longer worth the risk

'My (33F) partner (48M) just dropped our relationship and told me I wasn't worth it?'

So as it sounds above, I was in a 2 year relationship, it started as a typical

casual situationship, I never meant to fall for him.

He was fresh out of a relationship at the time, so we agreed to take it slow.

He has two children both in early 20s.

Once we started to become serious we talked through all pros and cons,

talking through how people may see us (age gap) etc. And we agreed that

while some may take time to come round, eventually it would work out.

Then the "I love yous" and "You are my soulmate" conversations came

round, I truly believed we were in love, we connected perfectly on every

level, intimate, emotional, intellectually, all of it.

And then a month ago, he told me he needed some space, no real reason,

so I gave him some space, then he just told me I wasn't worth the risk for

him anymore.....and has already moved on, I feel so completely broken, and

confused. I'm lost and don't know how to get through this.

Best part, I work in the same office as him, and the person he moved on

with, is two desks away from me.. I always believed in true love, and

believed that when you are in love, everything, can be fixed.. But he just

binned me off, with absolutely no conversation.. Crazy part, I think I still

love him, but want to hate him.. How can I heal from this?. Please help?

Sometimes the most painful heartbreaks are not caused by the end of a relationship, but by the sudden collapse of the future someone thought they were building.

Losing a person you loved is difficult, but losing the meaning attached to that relationship can feel even more confusing.

In OP’s situation, the pain is not only about a breakup.

It is about trying to understand how someone who once described her as a soulmate could later decide she was “not worth the risk.”

The emotional weight of this story comes from the contrast between deep connection and sudden rejection.

OP entered the relationship knowing there were possible challenges, including the age difference and his family situation.

They discussed those concerns together and made the decision to continue.

Because of that, she invested emotionally with the belief that they were choosing each other despite outside opinions.

His decision to leave without a meaningful conversation likely created a feeling of being discarded rather than simply separated.

A different perspective is that some people can genuinely experience strong emotions in a relationship while still struggling when the relationship requires long-term commitment.

His previous relationship history, his children’s possible reactions, and his personal fears may have created internal conflict that he did not communicate properly.

This does not erase the hurt caused by his actions, but it shows that someone leaving does not always mean the connection was fake.

Sometimes people choose avoidance when they are unable to handle difficult conversations.

This is why OP’s recovery may feel especially difficult.

She is not only grieving the relationship but also dealing with constant reminders because she sees both people at work.

Healing becomes harder when the person who caused the wound remains part of daily life.

The goal may not be to immediately stop loving him or force herself to feel anger.

Emotions rarely disappear on command. The first step is accepting that love can exist alongside disappointment.

Moving forward, OP may need to separate the person she loved from the way he chose to handle the ending.

Someone can have meaningful moments with us and still make choices that hurt us deeply.

True healing often comes when we stop asking, “How could someone who loved me do this?” and begin asking, “What do I need now to rebuild my own sense of peace?”

The end of a relationship does not mean the love was meaningless.

It means one chapter ended before OP was ready to close it.

With time, support, and distance where possible, the heartbreak that feels impossible today can become a reminder of her capacity to love, not proof that she was not worth choosing.

Here’s what people had to say to OP:

These commenters advised OP to create distance at work

slappaslap − Lol go to hr before he or her cause you problems at work. This

man should not be hopping around his coworkers

doctorfortoys − Leave this job

These commenters focused on healing after the breakup

Comeinforcoffee − Can you find a new & better job? It must be really hard

to work with them in the same place. I would suggest you lean on your

friends and family and try to foster new friendships, new hobbies. People

like this don't deserve your focus, you should watch Bridget Jones and just

move on, f__k these disrespectful people.

screw-your-feelings − It's just your run of the mill heartbreak. Yeah it hurts

every time, but you need to take the loss and go. Understand the dude is

just in it for the p\~y and not ready to commit. Also, just do you know,

dudes that are post-midlife-crisis are often just seeking validation.

They're not after making a family because they already been there, done

that, and mostly find it underwhelming.

Odd-Cup8261 − Maybe you put too much of your self-worth in your

relationship so then when he left you felt like it was your fault when it's

just completely out of your control.

These commenters suggested OP may have been a rebound relationship and encouraged accepting the breakup

inlike069 − You were the rebound girl. Tough situation, but time heals all

wounds. You'll be fine.

Most_Refuse9265 − Bet, new girl is younger and/or more attractive

This commenter criticized the workplace relationship and recommended minimizing contact with the ex to move forward

enquisitor_1 − Pretend like hes not even there. Barely acknowledge him

unles you have to. He's come running like magnet. Some men really like

their space, others just dont like more emotional burdens Pretend like you

two never happened, and see if that works.

These commenters criticized OP’s choices and workplace romance

Top_Relative9495 − Women fought so hard for a respectable place in the

workforce and ppl like you go clock in to find someone to hump on. Focus

on your tasks not a piece of ass when clocked in and you won’t be

disappointed when f__k boys reveal themselves as f__k boys

Lunapreys − You were 31 years old when you got with him. You were

already used up, and you never believed in true love. Sounds like you hit

the wall and lost your payday.

The commenter supported OP’s anger and encouraged standing up for herself

MrsBarbarian − What a total pos. You go full nuclear OP. Watch and read

some prorevenge stuff and make your plans. He's a no good lying sob who I

think was playing you the whole time. Definitely invite his new girl or for

lunch and tell her what he's done. Don't expect thanks or for her to break up with him.

It'll just be planting a seed and you can treat it as an off-load . He deserves taking down a peg or two.

After two years together, the OP believed she had found a rare kind of love.

What started casually became a deep relationship filled with promises, soulmate conversations, and plans for a future despite the challenges they faced.

Then, without warning, he asked for space, only to return with the devastating statement that she was no longer worth the risk.

The hardest part? She still has to see him every day while watching him move on with someone else at work.

Was his sudden exit unfair, or was he honest about his feelings?

How would you heal when the person who broke your heart is still right in front of you? Share your thoughts below.
