Woman Cancels After Her Date Runs Two Hours Late, Then He Starts Contacting Her Everywhere

A late date can be frustrating, but repeated contact after someone clearly cancels can turn disappointment into something far more unsettling. Once a person starts searching across multiple platforms and using new numbers, the issue is no longer simple miscommunication.

The original poster (OP) had spent days planning a date, arranged childcare for her son, and was already dressed when the man stopped providing clear updates. After learning he would be nearly two hours late, she canceled and blocked him.

Instead of respecting that decision, he contacted her through Instagram, Snapchat, private calls, different numbers, and even small Cash App payments. Read on to see why OP began wondering whether his persistence was merely awkward or serious enough to report.

'My date was about to be two hours late and I told him we need to reschedule and he’s got me a little scared now'

So this guy and I been talking for about a week now . We planned a date about four days ago .

Yesterday we were supposed to have had our date but days prior to that we kept talking about the date up until the date that was supposed to be had...

Yesterday I already took a shower , got my make up done and got my son dressed

because he was gonna go to his babysitter at 8 PM and my date agreed to pay for the babysitter as well

so I kept asking him for updates on what was going on. He was really slowly replying And then around 833.

I told him if you’re not here by 9:30 we’re gonna have to cancel because I don’t wanna keep the babysitter waiting

and then around 9 o’clock I still had no response from him so I just went ahead and told him we’re gonna have to cancel

and as soon as I typed that he said he had poor signal he was gonna be here at 9:40 please I wanna see you.

He just kept texting more and more so I just blocked him And then he said that he understood why I had to cancel,

but then he still kept calling and texting me he found my Instagram messaged me on there, he found my Snapchat,

he called me on private numbers, he still kept cash apping me one dollars asking me if I’m OK .

I just feel a little bit creeped out by him and he still is sending me messages from different numbers.

Is this a valid reason to be worried about this kind of behavior and report it to the police ?

I did already text him yes I was fine but he still keeps contacting me

UPDATE: I sent him a long text on why he should stop contacting me and why .

He then texted me saying he sincerely apologize and he really wants to make it up .

He sent me $50 on cash app for deposit for baby sitter but I sent it back and told him to leave me alone.

A disappointing date can be rescheduled, but a refusal to respect “no” changes the situation entirely. The OP was not unreasonable for canceling after receiving little communication and facing a delay of nearly two hours. She had arranged childcare, prepared to leave, and clearly explained her deadline.

Once she canceled and blocked him, the date was over. His decision to pursue her across Instagram, Snapchat, private numbers, and repeated Cash App payments created a legitimate reason for concern.

The emotional conflict is not really about lateness. The man may have felt embarrassed, disappointed, or desperate to prove that he had not intentionally stood her up. Yet those feelings did not entitle him to keep forcing contact after she withdrew.

What may have begun as excessive apologizing became unsettling because every blocked route was followed by a new one. The OP’s fear came from recognizing that the usual tools for ending an interaction were not working.

A different perspective is that his behavior does not prove he intended physical harm. He may have interpreted persistence as romantic determination or believed that one more explanation would change her mind.

However, intent matters less once someone has explicitly asked to be left alone. A person who keeps searching for new access points is demonstrating that their desire for contact matters more to them than the other person’s comfort and autonomy.

The Stalking Prevention, Awareness and Resource Center defines stalking as a pattern of behavior directed at a person that causes reasonable fear or substantial emotional distress, while noting that legal definitions vary by state. Repeated unwanted messages, calls, and contact through multiple technologies can form part of such a pattern.

The U.S. Department of Justice similarly describes stalking as a course of conduct involving repeated nonconsensual communication or proximity that creates fear or serious distress.

Applied here, the OP was right to take the escalation seriously without needing to decide exactly what label applies. Sending another long explanation was understandable, but she has now communicated clearly enough. Further engagement may reward his persistence by showing that new numbers and accounts still produce a response.

The practical next step is to preserve screenshots, call logs, payment records, usernames, and the message where she told him to stop. SPARC advises keeping a chronological record of unwanted contacts and contacting police if someone feels in immediate danger.

She should also inform trusted people, report his accounts to the dating and social platforms, review location-sharing settings, and avoid meeting him to obtain closure.

Reporting the pattern to police is reasonable, even if officers determine that no charge can currently be filed. Documentation may matter if the behavior continues. The OP did not create this problem by canceling a date. She set a limit, and he repeatedly demonstrated that he was unwilling to accept it.

Here’s how people reacted to the post:

These Redditors urged OP to cut contact completely and never see him again

[Reddit User] − Ruuuuun as fast as you can!!!

datingkoolaid − He’s ignoring your boundaries, which are totally reasonable. Show him the door. Don’t give him a second thought

Psychological-Joke22 − Read "The Gift of Fear". Twice. Never see this person again.

MuddaFrmAnnudaBrudda − Block on everything-don't accept money/babysitting money from anyone and move on with your life.

These commenters feared for OP’s safety and suggested notifying local police

Remarkable-Piece-535 − Very disturbing behavior. I would keep him blocked and possibly call the police.

random08888 − Honestly, don’t call 911 but call your local police’s non emergency number and report the behavior.

Who knows if other women have reported him before, it’s possible.

It’s also possible he’s just super weird and obsessive which in its own right is scary also. It’s better safe than sorry, especially with children in your home! ❤️

MetallurgyClergy − He knows where you live, doesn’t he?

OkapiEli − Ick. Screenshots. Tell him directly not to contact you again. Screenshots and then block.

Ignore him if he connects via other numbers - screenshots. If he persists check local harassment laws.

The screenshots are your evidence if you need to actually file harassment.

These Redditors viewed his repeated contact and money transfers as disturbing and obsessive

Active_Recording_789 − This is not normal. Trying all kinds of different numbers and repeatedly sending you $1? Unsafe!

Don’t meet him! There’s something very wrong and creepy here

mdthomas − At the very least, my guess is that he was "going to be late" to try to skip the date and just come to your place in the...

At most, he's p__cho.

Should she make a non-emergency police report now to establish a record, or wait unless he attempts contact again? How should dating platforms respond when someone follows a rejected match across multiple services?
