Artist Accidentally Exposes Six-Year Affair After Old Commission Resurfaces Online

Sometimes, the smallest things can unexpectedly become connected to someone else’s biggest problems. A piece of art, a photo, or a forgotten memory online can hold a completely different meaning for people years after it was created.

The original poster (OP) was simply an artist completing a commission for a client who wanted cute artwork of two fictional game characters representing a couple. Years later, that old drawing suddenly brought OP into a stranger’s personal drama involving an affair, a marriage, and a request to erase a piece of history from the internet.

OP had no connection to the situation and never knew what was happening behind the artwork, but somehow became part of the aftermath. Scroll down to see how this unexpected online discovery unfolded.

'I unknowingly ruined a marriage with my artwork'

6 years ago, I got an art commission request from a client (let’s call her Blue) asking me to draw her’s and her boyfriend’s (let’s call him Green)

player characters from an MMO game doing cute couple things. I accepted, I finished the artwork, and Blue loved it.

I post the art online as I usually do, and didn’t think much of it.

That art commission eventually got buried into the depths of my online gallery, covered up by 6 years of more commissions, projects, and personal pieces.

Fast forward to 2024. Suddenly last month, I get a comment on that art piece from a blank account, accusing Blue of being a cheater/homewrecker.

Because the account had no posts and a generic name, I just figured it was someone trolling with a sock puppet,

deleted the comment, blocked the account and moved on with my life.

Then today, I received an odd DM from a completely different account.

It’s also blank and the stats said it was created 15 minutes before the DM landed in my inbox.

This new account explained he was Green, and he had an affair with Blue. Green is married.

He confessed the affair to his wife and was trying to fix things,

but that art commission from 6 years ago was bothering her and he requested I remove that piece from the internet.

Here’s the weird part: Blue commissioned me again earlier this year for a 2nd art piece featuring the same 2 MMO characters.

Green (and likely his wife) seem to be unaware of this, because there was no ask about removing the 2nd piece.

I did post the 2nd piece as well, on the same website as I did the 1st.

Green only asked me to remove the 1st piece, which is buried in 6 years of posts.

It’s puzzling to me how they were able to find that one, but not the most recent 2nd one??

As a note, I don’t know any of these people in real life. They’re just random internet strangers to me.

I’ve just been minding my own business for 6 years and suddenly I had tea land right in my lap.

And if the guy who sent me that DM happens to read this, not deleting the art. Sorry. I’m not the one who cheated.

(EDIT) NOW HAS AN UPDATE: The short summary is I was commissioned by a client (Blue) to draw her and her boyfriend’s

(Green) MMO characters together as a couple.

6-7 years later, I received a comment on the commission from a newly made blank account accusing Blue of homewrecking.

Sometime after that, I received a DM from another blank account claiming to be Green,

who said he had cheated on his wife with Blue and asked me to remove the artwork.

I kept the artwork up because 1.) I don’t know these people, 2.) I’m not the one who cheated.

Also, there’s a 2nd artwork of the same MMO characters that seems to have been undiscovered by both Green and his wife.

I was not expecting to be making any updates after my initial post, but something else happened that sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole, so here we...

I received yet ANOTHER comment on the now 7 year old commission piece today.

Same deal as last time, blank account, newly made, calling Blue (and ME this time!) “trashy”.

Same as before, I deleted the comment and blocked the account. But instead of just moving on, I got a little curious.

I realized sometime ago that the reason Green and his wife seemed to be unaware of the 2nd artwork is

because I had titled the 1st artwork with Blue’s in-game name. The 2nd artwork was titled with something else.

So I decided to search Blue’s in-game name to see what exactly came up, and I found Green’s wife’s Twitter account. (Gonna call her Red from here on.)

Red had shared the artwork on her Twitter, which is how it ended up in the search results.

Judging from the tweets, the cheating had been discovered in September 2024,

which lines up perfectly with when I received the initial comment calling Blue a homewrecker.

So that pretty much confirmed for me that Red is the one making the blank accounts and commenting on my 7 year old art.

What I was able to glean from Red’s tweets is that she and Green are separated.

Blue had a husband as well, she separated from him too. Blue and Green are together now and apparently, still playing that MMO.

Red also deleted Green’s character at some point, which LOL

Red also has Blue’s real name mentioned in a couple places. They may actually know each other irl, but I can’t find a way to confirm that.

(If you’re wondering how I recognized Blue’s real name, it’s because when you send money thru PayPal, your real name does appear.

Usually I ignore it, but Blue’s name is pretty unique.)

Red’s Twitter account seems to have been created specifically to rant about the cheating, separate from her main account.

The account was made and started posting in September 2024 and has continued posting up until recently.

That’s all. I went on a small stalking adventure online and learned some things I didn’t want to.

ed, if you’re reading this, I hope you find something that makes you happy.

Final note: I still haven’t been able to determine if this is an irl marriage or an in-game marriage.

Artists often create things without knowing the personal stories that will later become connected to them. A painting, photograph, song, or piece of writing may begin as a simple commission or creative project, but once it enters the world, other people can attach their own memories and emotions to it.

In this story, the OP was not involved in a relationship conflict at all. They were simply an artist who completed a commission years earlier and shared the finished work as part of their portfolio. The emotional complication came from discovering that the artwork had become a symbol of a much larger betrayal between strangers.

For Green and his wife, the image represented a relationship that was tied to an affair. For OP, it was just a piece of artwork created from a client’s request. The same image carried completely different meanings depending on who was looking at it.

A different perspective is that this situation highlights how people sometimes try to control reminders of painful experiences rather than confronting the source of the pain. Green may genuinely want to repair his marriage and understand why the artwork hurts his wife, but removing an artist’s work does not erase the choices that created the hurt.

The discomfort comes from the history behind the image, not from the image itself. At the same time, the wife’s emotional reaction would also be understandable because objects connected to betrayal can become powerful reminders of broken trust.

Psychologists who study memory and emotional triggers explain that people often attach strong feelings to objects, places, or symbols associated with important experiences.

According to psychologist Elizabeth Loftus, memories are not simply stored records of events; they are reconstructed and influenced by emotions and later experiences. This means an object can gain emotional meaning because of the story people associate with it, even when the object itself is neutral.

That perspective explains why the artwork became important to Green’s wife, but it also explains why OP has no responsibility for removing it. The artist did not create the betrayal, participate in the affair, or knowingly help someone deceive another person. The artwork simply existed before the conflict was revealed.

The situation also raises an interesting question about ownership and emotional responsibility. People deserve compassion when they are hurt, but healing usually requires addressing the actions and choices that caused the damage.

Asking an uninvolved creator to erase evidence of a painful chapter may provide temporary relief, but it does not repair the underlying relationship.

Sometimes art becomes connected to stories far beyond the creator’s intentions. That does not mean the artist owns those stories or must carry their consequences. OP’s role was to make art, not to become responsible for a stranger’s relationship history.

Take a look at the comments from fellow users:

These Redditors suspected hidden details and questioned whether the artwork discovery revealed a bigger affair

Zealousideal_Self628 − Could be a scammer looking to pass the art off as their own. Or not, it just seems weird.

Like you said, why would they be able to find one piece and not the other? Why continue these requests?

Seems like much more than an affair. Maybe a poly relationship or friend group?

A 6 yr old piece of artwork is likely last on someone’s mind if they just discovered cheating.

HappyNow10 − He’s still having the affair with Blue and his wife doesn’t know the second image exists.

[Reddit User] − I wonder if she gifted him that piece and he passed it off as just some characters in a game

he likes so it's been hanging in his house all this time. Then the wife finds out everything.

These commenters discussed how the artwork could have been found and why someone kept requesting it

Wazootyman13 − Could they have done a reverse image search on it?

AlizarinQ − If you want to be slightly petty and also keep your distance you can say something about

how you keep everything in your portfolio unless the client buys super exclusive rights to the image when commissioning it.

If you want to be really petty and also stir up drama you can say that while the original was done 6 years ago

it didn’t make sense for you to sell the rights at this point but since the other one is more recent you would be willing to sell the rights

to post it online for $$$. You can also act confused for a few messages about thinking the person reaching out was

the one who commissioned it because usually you only talk to the client about a picture or something.

But you’d be queuing them into the fact there is a newer version but also trying to keep professional distance.

These commenters reacted with curiosity and humor while wanting more context about the artwork and names involved

footballpoetry − I need to see these pictures

Rotbertt − I played WoW with two guys (brothers) named Bluecrusader and Greentank. Very weird to read this and their names pop in my head.

These users focused on artwork ownership, contracts, and possible ways OP could respond

ScottishOnyuns − Is it part of your contract that you will post the images? Or is it legal to just upload it because you created it?

I always think it’s a bit of a weird grey area when someone owns artwork, and the creator of it still uploads it.

In my mind, the art should now belong to the buyer.

But would love to be educated a little on it!

Unvix − 4 words reply: not really my problem. but for shits and giggles i would use my time to find the wife and tell her everything.

The artist created a romantic drawing between fictional characters. Years later, those fictional characters became tied to a very real betrayal. The artist did not ruin a marriage. They did not expose the affair. They did not create the problem.

They simply uploaded their own work and suddenly found themselves standing in the middle of someone else’s drama.

Sometimes the strangest stories online are not caused by what people create, but by what others attach to those creations years later.
