Engaged Man Makes Out With Another Woman on Guys’ Night, Then Warns Everyone Not to Tell His Fiancée

Friend groups can survive plenty of awkward situations, but cheating creates a problem that is much harder to ignore.

Once several people know what happened, staying silent can start to feel like helping someone hide it.

One woman found herself in that position after her fiancé returned from a guys’ night with an uncomfortable story about their engaged friend Jake.

According to several men who were there, Jake spent the evening flirting with women, encouraging his committed friends to do the same, and eventually made out with someone at the bar.

Afterward, he warned everyone not to tell anyone.

Most of the men immediately told their partners, but none want to be the person responsible for exposing him to his fiancée.

Scroll down to see why the poster feels someone has to tell the woman before the wedding, even if it creates fallout in the group.

A woman wrestles with whether to expose a friend’s cheating before his fiancée marries him

'Cheating on Fiancée with no remorse?'

My fiancé (27M) & I’s (28F) friend group is quite close knit and often get

together for holidays, birthdays, and other occasions. Recently, all the guys

went out for a guys night and went to a plethora of bars from about 9pm-

3am. There is this one friend, let’s call him Jake, that is constantly pitching

ideas that are exclusive to the men, or in other words, constantly excluding

the girlfriends and wives from any event or gathering. The other men in the

group normally like to do things as a whole group, but this past weekend,

all the ladies encouraged their guys to go out to celebrate Jakes’ birthday.

While they were out, Jake (who is engaged & getting married within a year)

was constantly chatting up girls and asking which of the guys they found

most attractive. He went as far as encouraging them to talk to girls, even

though they’re all either committed/engaged/married. After a while, he

went off with a girl he met and made out with her at the bar. He then went

back to the rest of the guys and told them “they better not say anything to anyone.”

Upon the men arriving home, all except Jake promptly told their

fiancée/wife what had occurred. The girls don’t have super close

relationships with each other, with the exception of myself and one other

girl (not the one who was cheated on.) We both agree that SOMEONE has

to say something, but all the guys that were there don’t want to be the one

to blow everything up. They also don’t want us to tell her, because the onus of breaking “bro code” will be on them.

The next morning, they all got on chat together and Jake stated that he

totally blacked out after the third bar, which is the bar right before the one

he cheated at,. but could curiously remember what drinks they got at each of the bars they went to.

He’s also previously made comments on wanting to go out before he gets married to “act like he’s single one last time.”

I cannot let this woman marry this guy, having no idea that he’s completely

clowning her. I also don’t want to upset my fiancé by spilling the beans. What should I do?

EDIT: Only 3 of the guys DIRECTLY WITNESSED the cheating and have plans

to cut him off. The others have been best friends with him since

elementary school and refuse to rat on him. All explicitly stated that they

are no longer willing to go out drinking with Jake again without the ladies present.

Sometimes loyalty becomes uncomfortable when protecting a friend means helping them hide something that could radically change another person’s life.

That is the position this entire friend group has been pushed into.

Jake did not simply make out with someone while engaged; afterward, he explicitly told the men who witnessed it to keep quiet.

Now everyone else is carrying information his fiancée may consider essential before marrying him.

Emotionally, the conflict is understandable.

The men who saw it firsthand know that speaking up could end a long friendship, disrupt the larger group, and potentially derail a wedding.

Their partners are caught in a different bind: remaining silent may preserve peace, but it can also feel like indirectly participating in the deception.

The OP is especially torn because telling the fiancée could strain her own relationship if her fiancé feels she violated the group’s confidence.

A fresher way to look at this is that “bro code” only works when the secret being protected concerns the friend himself.

Once the secret materially affects another person’s ability to make an informed decision about marriage, silence stops being neutral.

Jake is effectively asking several people to absorb the social consequences of his own behavior so that he does not have to face them himself.

Whether alcohol impaired his judgment is less important than what happened afterward.

He remembered enough to order everyone not to tell, and he had previously talked about wanting to “act single” before marriage.

Those details suggest that the core issue is not one confused moment but the attitude surrounding commitment.

The OP probably should not turn this into public gossip or launch an accusation based solely on secondhand information.

The three men who directly witnessed the cheating are in the strongest position to act.

A reasonable first step would be for them to tell Jake that he needs to disclose what happened himself, with a clear deadline, or they will tell his fiancée what they personally witnessed.

Friendship does not require helping someone enter a marriage under false pretenses.

If telling the truth destroys the engagement, the truth did not create that problem. Jake’s choices did.

Let’s dive into the reactions from Reddit:

These commenters rejected the “bro code” and argued that the fiancé deserves to know about the cheating

ct22233 − Cheating is cheating. There’s no code for being a piece of s__t.

ChicoLopez − Tell your friend. If she ends up not listening it’s not your problem

Songblade7 − F__k their bro code. A real "bro" would give his friend a

reality check that he's being a POS and let his fiancé know what he's doing.

SlappinHams − Don't let someone ruin their life without knowing the truth.

Also ask yourself is this the kind of person you want around in your life? You are the company you keep

These Redditors condemned Jake’s behavior and said his friends should hold him accountable instead of protecting him

Gold_Maintenance2828 − Jake’s a POS for one. All of the guys are a little

bit spineless. What if it was one of their wives cheating but you ladies

didn’t wanna break the girl code? It’s stupid. If they were in high school

then maybe Jake could get a pass but not with fiancé. Even if Jake was

drunk/blacked out, he still needs to deal with the consequences.

You could leave his wife an anonymous letter telling her what happened if

you really don’t want to be a fire starter but honestly she should know and

the guys should be a bit more willing to call out their friend when he fucks

up. It just means Jake would cover for them if they did the same to their spouse.

bia834 − Sad, that everyone knows this. All the men and their wife's. THINK

ON THAT. This woman is left out in the cold and the last to know and every

one of you are laughing at it behind her back. If you are not telling her.

Some of these guys need to let their balls drop and be a man.

Jake is a piece of s__t and not worth being a friend or to be allowed in this

group of adults. He is a stain on this group. Tell her and let her make her

own discission if this is the guy she wants to spend her life with and be

treated this way. Also proud of the guys telling their wife's what happened.

THAT IS TRUST AND RESPECT. The only thing that matters to these guys

truly is there partners who they chose to be with them for life. Whatever it

may be husbands and wife's or husbands and husbands or wife's and wife's.

NO ONE ELSE MATTERS. Jake does not. Friends come and go but your partner is forever if you treat them right.

Furberia − Jake is a piece of worthless s__t and does not deserve committed love.

These commenters urged the women to collectively tell the fiancé so the responsibility does not fall on one person

Dear_Parsnip_6802 − If all the girls tell her together they can all shoulder the responsibility.

glycophosphate − You and your friend have to tell the woman who got cheated on. The guys can shove "bro code".

Southern_Address_512 − Spill those beans!

These Redditors suggested anonymous methods of revealing the affair while reducing the OP’s direct involvement

Low_End_7882 − Here's something that worked for some folks I know: a

man anonymously called the husband of a woman who was cheating and

said, "I'm f__king your wife," then hung up. The husband went to the wife

who, confronted by surprise in this way, admitted to her infidelity.

Even though she quickly learned afterward that he man she had cheated

with is not the one who called. It was just someone who was bothered by

the fact she was cheating and wanted to let the husband know anonymously.

FixUrPosture − Just send an anonymous letter and call it a day.

The real problem here isn’t “bro code.”

It’s that Jake is preparing to marry someone while already acting single behind her back and expecting everyone else to protect the lie.

His blackout excuse also sounds convenient given how much of the night he apparently remembers.

The people who witnessed it are now being asked to choose between loyalty to a friend and honesty with the person he plans to marry.

Do you think someone in the group should tell her directly, even if it blows up the friendships?
