Michael Douglas revealed on The View that he asked for his character, Hank Pym, to be killed off in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
He explained that he wanted a dramatic death scene with impressive special effects, where he shrinks to ant size and explodes.
“This actually was my request for the third one,” Douglas explained during his appearance on The View. “I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is.”
He added, “I want to use all those effects. But, that was on the last one. Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up.”
Speaking to THR on the Quantumania red carpet in 2023, Douglas expressed his willingness to return for a fourth film under one condition: “as long as I could die.” Marvel executive Stephen Broussard mentioned in a separate interview with ComicBook.com that discussions about a fourth film were already underway before its release.

Upon its theatrical release, the film outperformed the first two installments in the franchise at the box office.
However, it followed the trend of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects receiving lower CinemaScores on opening weekend, despite the previous 21 films receiving straight A’s.
In an interview with THR at the premiere of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Douglas expressed comfort in reuniting with many cast members from the first two films, including Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kathryn Newton.
“Having the comfort factor of knowing each other, you don’t have to go through the formal introductions,” he claimed at the time. “You all know each other. It makes it very comfortable, and Peyton Reed is the same director. It was a nice experience.”
In the third Ant-Man movie, Scott Lang, played by Rudd, has to defeat Kang the Conqueror, portrayed by Jonathan Majors. Kang is the most powerful villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) so far and was introduced in season one of Loki.
Originally intended to launch the next phase of the MCU, “Quantumania” was planned to pave the way for the release of “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
However, Marvel parted ways with Jonathan Majors after he was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment in December.
With Majors no longer in the picture, Marvel has two options: recast the role of Kang or reconsider their plans for the next phase and explore other villain options.
Sources suggest that Marvel is leaning towards the latter, with indications pointing towards a reworked script for what is now referred to as “Avengers 5,” overseen by “Loki” creator Michael Waldron, who was brought on board in November.
