Summary:
- “Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth team up in the action-thriller ‘Crime 101,’ directed by Bart Layton.
- Follow Detective Lou Lubesnick as he investigates jewel thefts along the Pacific Coast, with the film set to release in 2025.”
Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo is set to team up with one of his MCU co-stars for the new action-thriller, Crime 101.
Ruffalo first made his debut as Bruce Banner in 2012’s The Avengers, following which he would appear in a further five MCU movies and two television shows, with his most recent arrival coming in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Beyond Marvel, the Oscar nominee has a number of notable titles under his belt, with the most recent being the critically acclaimed Poor Things.
Ruffalo is teaming up with a former co-star in a lead role for Amazon MGM Studios’ action thriller, Crime 101.
Ruffalo stars opposite Chris Hemsworth in a movie where details on the plot are being kept under wraps, other than it known that it will be the story of Detective Lou Lubesnick, who investigates a wave of jewel thefts along the Pacific Coast, that possibly may be linked to Colombian Cartels.
Bart Layton directs, with Hemsworth also producing with his producing partner Ben Grayson, and it’s expected that the movie will be released theatrically in 2025.
Can Crime 101 Keep Ruffalo’s Winning Streak Alive?
He arrives on a hot streak, from his fourth Oscar-nominated performance for Poor Things, and will inevitably look to hopefully bring even more oomph to his career.
Crime 101 is written by some solid creative minds and is home to a gritty story that could give Ruffalo a really good chance of flexing his dramatic acting muscles.
The actor has flirted with both drama and comedy over the years, although three of his four Oscar nominations have been in dramas, so Crime 101 might promise an exciting new showcase for Ruffalo.
Next year, both Ruffalo and Hemsworth have rather intense schedules: the former is currently shooting for HBO‘s Task while appearing next in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, co-starring newly cast The Batman star Robert Pattinson.
Meanwhile, Hemsworth can be seen next in George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and is working on a third movie in his Netflix franchise Extraction, as well as contributing a voice to the animated project Transformers One.
How effective Crime 101 could be remains to be seen, but with the combined star power of the two leads, it is likely to do good business. It might be another success in terms of action for Hemsworth, and Ruffalo will likely be itching for more critical praise.
The movie also lets the pair further their chemistry, which was certainly the case in Thor: Ragnarok.
Although its awards profile is yet to be determined, this could be one of Ruffalo’s better movies and performances, assuming the source material is up to his and Hemsworth’s talent.
