Summary:

- Taylor-Joy portrays the clairvoyant little sister of Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides, who’s yet to be born in Dune: Part Two.
- The franchise’s visionary, Denis Villeneuve, also expresses his desire to work with Taylor-Joy again in the third movie.
Anya Taylor-Joy’s 2024 so far has been filled with the sand and the heat from the desert, starring in George Miller‘s Mad Max spinoff Furiosa, and making a cameo appearance in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two. Her role in Dune, though brief, has sparked discussions about her potential involvement in the next installment of the series.
In Dune: Part Two, the continuation of Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic novel, Taylor-Joy made a surprising cameo as Alia Atreides, the yet-to-be-born sister of Paul Atreides, appearing to him in a vision after drinking the Water of Life. Her brief appearance has left fans wondering if she’ll have a more significant presence in the upcoming Dune: Messiah, given how important her character is later on in the books .
While there is no confirmed release date for Dune: Messiah, which has been officially announced, Taylor-Joy shared her insights in a recent interview with British GQ:
“I’ll know when you do. I think we’re all really hopeful. Listen, I’m ready now, I’ve done the training. I think you kind of need to do the movie in order to be ready for it,” said the Furiosa performer.
Reflecting on her roles in both Dune: Part Two and Furiosa, which take place in a sandy post-apocalyptic dystopia, Taylor-Joy also described the challenges of filming in desert conditions.
“It was a fucking mountain made of sand. Every step you take, you fall. There was a very real moment halfway through where, I can guarantee you, every single one of us was like ‘I can’t fucking make it; bury me here.'”
The franchise’s director, Denis Villeneuve also has high praises for the young actress, claiming how he immediately knew Taylor-Joy was Taylor-made for the role of Alia.
“Anya was Alia as soon as I met with her. In fact, I realized after the fact, she has always been Alia. Anya feels out of this world, as though she belongs to some other dimension, one step into the area,” Villeneuve expressed his admiration for the actress.
“Shooting with Anya in Africa was nothing short of magical. Her generosity, candor and passion truly moved me. I can’t wait to go back on Arrakis with her,” he added, teasing Taylor-Joy’s involvement in the upcoming threequel.
As Paul Atreides has become the ruler of Arrakis in Dune: Part 2, Taylor-Joy’s Alia will definitely play a major part in how Paul will dictate the planet in the threequel, which could explain why he will slowly turn into a tyrant that kills billions of people, just like in the books.
Dune: Messiah’s release date is still unknown, but the majority of the cast are expected to make their return, including Anya Taylor-Joy.
