Shocking Acolyte Theory Brings KOTOR’s Darkest Jedi Plot To Life 18 Years Later

Mae Aniseya distrusts the Jedi, believing they committed a terrible act to stop the Sith.

Summary:

  • Mae Aniseya sees the Jedi as villains because of a potential dark event, hinting at a grim storyline.
  • It’s suggested that four Jedi Masters may have committed atrocities to prevent the Sith’s return, similar to the Jedi Covenant in KOTOR.
  • This dark history ironically pushes Mae towards becoming a Sith follower, echoing the Jedi’s past mistakes.

The Acolyte revolves around a mystery involving four Jedi Masters, and a chilling theory suggests that the answer lies in a dark storyline from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

The show’s main character, Sith acolyte Mae Aniseya, is determined to kill Jedi Masters Indara, Sol, Torbin, and Kelnacca to prove herself to her dark master. Mae is initially presented as a misguided character who believes the Jedi are evil, influenced by her tragic past where her family died in a fire she allegedly started.

Mae Implies The Jedi Killed Without Provocation

The Acolyte starts with Mae Aniseya murdering Jedi Master Indara, but despite her actions, Mae views the Jedi as villains. Indara tries to reason with Mae, stating that Jedi do not attack without provocation, to which Mae angrily responds that they do.

She later confronts Master Torbin, giving him a choice between confessing his crime to the Jedi High Council or taking his own life, and he chooses the latter out of guilt.

These interactions strongly hint that Mae targets these Jedi Masters because they committed a terrible crime when she was presumed dead.

They might have started the fire that destroyed Mae and Osha’s village, killing their family and leaving Mae to take the blame. This crime would violate the most sacred tenet of the Jedi Code, raising questions about their motivation

KOTOR Explained Why A Jedi Would Kill – For A Dark Reason

A possible explanation for this mystery can be found in the comic series Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2006) by John Jackson Miller and Brian Chang.

In this story, Jedi Padawan Zayne Carrick arrives late for his Jedi Trials and discovers that his masters have murdered their own Padawans. Fleeing for his life, Zayne is framed for the crime and must work to prove his innocence and bring the masters to justice.

The series reveals that some Jedi Masters are part of the Jedi Covenant, an organization dedicated to preventing the return of the Sith at any cost.

When they foresee their Padawans turning to the dark side, they decide to kill them to prevent this future. Zayne eventually exposes these masters, ending the Jedi Covenant and restoring unity within the Jedi Order.

Did The Four Jedi Kill For Fear Of The Sith?

The existence of a Jedi Covenant or a similar organization in the canon could explain why four Jedi Masters would commit such a heinous act.

Despite the Sith being supposedly extinct for 900 years in The Acolyte, the High Republic books and comics show the Jedi facing numerous threats to preserve peace.

If the masters had a vision of the Sith’s return, they might resort to extreme measures to prevent it, even if it meant committing atrocities.

This theory suggests that the masters targeted Osha and Mae’s village to prevent the Sith’s return, possibly misinterpreting a vision of the Force. Mae and Osha’s connection, being twins with a bond reminiscent of the Sith Rule of Two, could have led the masters to wrongly believe they were the threat.

There Would Be A Sinister Irony In This Star Wars Theory

If this theory is correct, the four Jedi Masters’ actions would be ironic. Their attempt to prevent the Sith’s return by destroying Osha and Mae’s village would have only succeeded in turning Mae into a Sith acolyte.

This parallels the fate of the Jedi Covenant in the KOTOR comics, where they gradually fell to the dark side, becoming what they sought to prevent.

This would continue a central theme of Star Wars: dark visions leading Jedi to make disastrous decisions. In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke’s fear for his friends led him to prematurely confront Darth Vader.

Anakin’s visions of Padmé’s death drove him to become a Sith, fulfilling the prophecy he tried to avoid. If The Acolyte reveals the four Jedi Masters took a similar path, it would add depth to the story and set up significant conflicts for future episodes.

This dark twist could radically change the course of The Acolyte, providing a compelling narrative that ties into Star Wars’ broader themes of prophecy, fear, and the consequences of trying to alter fate.
