Summary:

  • Kevin Feige confirms Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four” will be a 1960s period piece set in a uniquely reimagined New York City.
  • The film stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has officially confirmed that the upcoming film “The Fantastic Four” will be a period piece set in 1960s New York City.

This information comes following speculation from fans who noticed subtle hints in the illustrated posters released on social media.

Feige elaborated on “The Official Marvel Podcast” (via EW), suggesting that the New York City depicted in the film will differ from the historical 1960s New York we know.

A Unique Take on New York City for Marvel’s Fantastic Four

“There was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol and there was a cityscape in the corner of that image,” Feige explained.

“There were a lot of smart people who noticed that that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know, or the New York that existed in the ‘60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I’ll say.”

The film will feature Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing).

The supporting cast includes Ralph Ineson, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and Julia Garner. Directed by Matt Shakman and scripted by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer, the film aims to present a unique and compelling narrative.

Joseph Quinn expressed his enthusiasm for the project in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“With the story of the Fantastic Four, it feels like we want to get this right,” Quinn said.

“There are aspects of it that are very different to other Marvel films. That felt very compelling to me. And again, going back to who’s involved, Matt [Shakman], of course, the director, I think is brilliant, and the cast, and I’ve read it, and the script is brilliant. It’s really brilliant. I’m delighted to have this opportunity.”

“The Fantastic Four” is slated for release in theaters on July 25, 2025, with production expected to begin later this year.
