Julius Onah, who directed The Cloverfield Paradox, will helm Captain America 4, and Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as the titular Marvel hero.
Julius Onah has been tapped to helm Captain America 4, and things are heating up at Marvel Studios. The events in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson struggled with his inner dispute over whether to assume the Captain America identity as Steve Rogers wanted him to in Avengers: Endgame, is anticipated to go on in the impending installment of the MCU. Sam would merge his Falcon outfit with a Captain America design in the last episode of the Disney+ show and use Steve’s recognizable vibranium shield.
Early in 2021, when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s ended, Captain America 4’s production was first revealed. Malcolm Spellman, the show’s executive producer, and Dalan Musson, another writer, were hired to create the movie‘s script. In the next year, little was heard about the MCU follow-up, although Mackie teased that he was returning into hero shape in anticipation of the movie’s production getting underway shortly. It appears that Mackie will soon return to work for Captain America 4 after periods of preparation.
Julius Onah has been chosen to direct Captain America 4 according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Cloverfield Paradox and the social thriller Luce are two of the filmmaker’s most well-known works. No beginning date for Captain America 4’s development has been disclosed as of this writing.
For certain moviegoers who have previously known the director’s earlier work, the news that Onah has been hired to helm Captain America 4 is bound to result in mixed feelings. The crime thriller The Girl Is In Trouble and the science fiction horror movie The Cloverfield Paradox, which was disgracefully dumped on Netflix the day of its release statement in the Super Bowl to mainly unfavorable reviews from critics, presented the Nigerian-American director a rough critical start to his future profession.
Onah’s helm of the social thriller Luce, which starred Kelvin Harrison Jr., Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, and Tim Roth, nonetheless, received considerable praise, giving rise to some optimism that he will be directing Captain America 4 considering the film’s topical and difficult issues.
Given that Spellman and Musson have already been writing the script for more than a year and that Onah is currently the movie’s director, it appears that a beginning date for the shooting of the next sequel of Captain America will be announced soon.
In early 2022, Mackie made a hint that the next movie in the Marvel Cinematics Universe will start shooting soon. However, given that he would be busy shooting the next Twisted Metal series in early September, it appears that the film will probably start production in early 2023 and aim for a 2024 release. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which is currently airing on Disney+, allows viewers to relive Mackie wearing his Captain America suit for the first time while expecting more information about Captain America 4.
