Nearly a week after Episode 4 of “The Boys” Season 4 aired on Amazon’s Prime Video, fans are still shocked by the gruesome massacre Homelander (Antony Starr) left behind in the Vought Tower labs’ “bad room.”
The episode delved into Homelander‘s traumatic past and showcased just how deeply affected he remains by the horrific experiments conducted on him as a child.
Starr, who played a significant role in shaping these intense scenes, shared his insights with Variety.
“When that episode script came out, I saw the sequence of scenes and I went to [showrunner Eric Kripke] and we retooled them a little bit just to give more freedom on the day,” Starr explained.
“Originally, they were scripted very specifically. There wasn’t a lot of room for me to move on the day. I went to Eric and I said, ‘I think there’s other places we can go and that I’d like to try and go.’
So we rejigged things. Eric’s awesome, he is so open, and so together we nutted out a few scenes. On the day it was just about showing up and going for it and just seeing what worked and what didn’t.”
Enjoying the Darkness
Despite the scene’s dark nature, Starr found the experience enjoyable.
“As dark and fucked up as that seems now, that was probably one of the most enjoyable sequences I’ve had on the show,” he said.
“I had a ball doing it. It can’t get weird enough or dark enough for me and I love that. We get to do things on screen that we never get to do in real life so it was a huge amount of fun.”
As fans eagerly await Episode 5 of “The Boys” Season 4, it remains to be seen if the show continues to deliver the sick and twisted content that keeps Starr—and viewers—enthralled.
