Summary:
- It seems like The Penguin might have chosen Mark Strong, who played a villain in the DCEU, for an interesting role.
- Giacomo Farci mentioned on Instagram that he trained Strong for The Penguin.
- However, Warner Bros. TV, Max, and DC Studios haven’t confirmed if Strong is actually part of the project.
The Penguin TV show has reportedly cast a former DCEU villain actor for the upcoming The Batman spinoff series. Matt Reeves‘ The Batman universe is expanding following the massively successful 2022 movie starring Robert Pattinson.
While its sequel is a few years out, the sub-franchise is growing on the small screen in the form of The Penguin TV show, with Colin Farrell returning as the titular villain.
While the cast of The Penguin finished filming the first season back in February, it would seem another actor has joined the upcoming Max drama. An Instagram post from Giacomo Farci has recently resurfaced online showing Mark Strong and indicating that he is working with the former Shazam! star.

However, it is his reaction to a user question about working on “The Penguin” that’s particularly interesting. To the user,
Yes, I’ve trained Mark for it,” Farci replied, obviously hinting that Mark Strong is indeed in the series. To date, Warner Bros. TV, Max, and DC Studios have not yet issued any official confirmation or statement on the casting of Strong in the series.
Is Mark Strong Set to Portray a Batman Villain in ‘The Penguin’?
But with an impressive acting pedigree under his belt, rumor has been rife about which DC Comics character Mark Strong could potentially play within Reeves’ franchise.
But fan art has long imagined Strong as Victor Fries, a.k.a. Mr. Freeze — another of the Batman rogues who have received some sporadic portrayals since 1997’s Batman & Robin.
The backstory of Mr. Freeze is nuanced and can be fitly introduced in The Penguin, then going on to have more room for exploration in The Batman – Part II or even beyond.
Strong also fits as a psychologically formidable Dr. Hugo Strange, yet another icon in the rogues’ gallery of Bruce Wayne.
The changes in Gotham City post-The Batman and the rise of new adversaries, possibly teased in The Penguin, add another layer to Reeves’ already expansive world.
Fans now look forward to hearing which character Strong could possibly be playing on that show.
