- Him will be Peele’s fifth horror installment, after Get Out, Us, Nope, and Candyman.
Three years after the release of Nia DaCosta’s Candyman, Jordan Peele is back at it, producing another horror flick for Universal Pictures under his Monkeypaw Productions banner. The much-anticipated upcoming movie, initially known as GOAT, has been rebranded as Him and is slated for a theatrical release on September 19, 2025 (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
This project marks Marlon Wayans’ return to a leading role, his first since the 2018 Netflix comedy Sextuplets, which he co-wrote and produced. His latest screen appearance was in the 2022 sports drama Air, where he portrayed Michael Jordan’s former coach George Raveling.
Him represents a new venture for Wayans as his first serious dive into the horror genre, though the actor is already familiar with the territory of horror comedies like the Scary Movie series.
Written by Limetown creators Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, Him will see Wayans playing a legendary quarterback who gets tasked with training a rising young athlete at his isolated compound. Joining Wayans in the movie are Julia Fox, Tyriq Withers, Tim Heidecker, and Jim Jefferies, along with rappers Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack.
The script for Him comes from Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the minds behind Limetown. Helming the project is Justin Tipping, known for directing episodes of The Chi, Black Monday, and Dear White People.
The film follows a legendary quarterback, played by Wayans, who finds himself mentoring a promising young athlete within the confines of his secluded compound. The cast includes Julia Fox, Tyriq Withers, Tim Heidecker, and Jim Jefferies, with musical artists Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack also making appearances.
Details about Peele’s fourth directorial endeavor remain shrouded in secrecy, adding to the anticipation surrounding what he describes as potentially his “favorite movie yet.”
“I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right,” the former actor told fans.
Since his directorial debut with Get Out, which became a box office hit and a cultural phenomenon, Peele has continued to craft compelling horror masterpieces back-to-back with Universal, with Us, Candyman, and Nope gaining positive acclaim from critics.
Him is billed as a “blood-chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, power and the pursuit of excellence at any cost,” according to Universal. With this project, Peele continues to explore more sensitive themes, much as Get Out did with its searing examination of racism.
Besides Him, Monkeypaw Productions is developing another untitled movie directed by Peele at Universal, keeping fans eagerly waiting for more of his unique cinematic vision.
