Late-Night Drive-Thru Turns Chaotic When Teens Harass Woman And One Approaches Her Car

in Social Issues

A woman pulled into a McDonald’s drive-thru at half past midnight, hoping for a simple coffee, only to find herself targeted by a car full of loud teenagers. The group had already been tormenting the staff by messing with the intercom and reversing recklessly, but they soon shifted their attention to her, hurling cruel insults about her appearance and weight.

When one teen stepped out of the vehicle and walked over to her window, refusing to leave despite her demands, she snapped a photo of their license plate, called 911, and waited for officers to arrive. The police escorted the group away, leaving her to drive off while the teens faced unexpected consequences.

A woman called police on harassing teens in a McDonald’s drive-thru after one approached her car.

Late-Night Drive-Thru Turns Chaotic When Teens Harass Woman And One Approaches Her Car
Not the actual photo.

'AITA for calling cops on teens in drivethru?'

Ok!! So I’m sure everyone has been to a McDonald’s where there’s 2 lanes in the drive thru.

I’m in one, ordering a coffee at 12:30 am. There’s an SUV full of what I assume were late teen/extremely early 20s boys in the other.

They are being absolute idiots pulling ahead and reversing bugging the McDonald’s staff on the intercom.

While yelling incessantly, obviously thinking they’re hot s__t and hilarious.

I merge ahead and as I do, they take it upon themselves to start yelling and personally attacking ME.

Saying I shouldn’t be there cause I’m so fat and that I better only be getting a salad etc. I'm Just ignoring them, it doesn’t bother me.

But, I think to myself, I need to speak up, as what they were saying was so disgusting and potentially harmful to other people that can’t let stuff like that...

So I stopped briefly when I merged, and yelled “You all need to grow the f__k up, and you should be embarrassed.”

That set them off even more, but I didn't take the bait. Now we’re in the merged line. One uninvolved car between our vehicles.

They’re STILL yelling that I’m a fat b__ch, and I need to lose weight, etc etc. This is when I start to get irritated (takes a lot).

Then they took it to a new level. One of the little f__kheads GOT OUT of the car to walk to MY car. And is standing staring at me from...

I give him an incredulous look and tell him to GET THE F__K AWAY FROM MY CAR.

He just stupidly smiles and says to me that he’s just there to make sure my fat a__ gets a salad.

Well. I threw my car into park and was out of it before he could even blink.

THAT WAS IT. I grabbed my cellphone I walked directly to the back of their car took a picture of their license plate.

Got in my car locked it and called 911. 911 told me not to move my car so they couldn’t leave the drivethru.

By this time I had pulled up to the window and advised the manager of the situation.

Anyways cops show up, escort them out of the drivethru, get my info and say I can go.

I left giving the now much quieter little schmucks a smile and wave as I drive off. Now here’s the kicker. I feel bad now.

During all of this I notice the driver has a new driver indicator on their vehicle… which means they can have ZERO substances in their system,

only ONE passenger, and cannot have any electronic devices while driving even if they are hands free.

I’m not sure about the substances, but they were definitely in violation of the other rules.

Which will come with big consequences, up to having their license suspended.

I didn’t want my reaction to impact them in a big way like that, I wanted them to know you can’t act like that and to learn some accountability.

Am I the REAL a__hole?

Drive-thru drama is usually limited to wrong orders or spilled fries, but this story shows how quickly disrespect can turn into something more serious. The teens’ behavior wasn’t just immature, it was harassing and potentially threatening, especially late at night when one of them approached another person’s car.

From the outside, it’s easy to see why the Redditor felt justified. Harassment isn’t a joke, and standing your ground when someone invades your personal space is a natural response. But the Redditor’s guilt afterward is also understandable. Nobody wants to be responsible for someone losing their license over a stupid night out. The key here is that the consequences were the result of the teens’ own choices piling up.

This incident highlights a broader issue: young drivers often underestimate how strictly graduated licensing programs are enforced.

According to a nationwide review by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, comprehensive GDL programs are associated with 38% lower rates of fatal crashes and 40% lower rates of injury crashes among 16-year-old drivers, emphasizing how violations of restrictions can heighten risks on the road.

Anne McCartt, senior vice president for research at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, has emphasized the importance of stronger rules: “The question lawmakers should be asking themselves is, have we done all that we can do to keep our youngest drivers safe on the road? In many cases, the answer is no.”

In this case, the teens were already breaking multiple rules before the Redditor even got involved. Calling the police wasn’t a petty revenge, it was about safety and accountability. The Redditor didn’t force them to have extra passengers or approach a stranger’s car, those decisions were theirs.

Ultimately, the best advice is simple: treat others with respect, especially in public spaces, and understand that actions have consequences. If you’re ever in a similar situation, prioritize your safety, document what happened, and let authorities handle it, just like this Redditor did.

Here’s what the community had to contribute:

Some people view the situation as a clear case of the teenagers facing natural consequences for their bad behavior.

lkwinchester − NTA This is a real life version of f__k around and find out.

panzer22222 − NTA In Australia we call this situation a 'f__ken'

bobledrew − Total NTA. I reckon the driver of the vehicle knew the rules they were supposed to follow.

They didn’t. They f__ked around. Now they’re gonna find out. Oh well.

Emmiburr − NTA A classic example of ye ol "f__k around and find out".

They wanted to be obnoxious, and the consequences of being over obnoxious and harassing the public is getting the cops called on the harrasers.

Any extra trouble they're in isn't on you, it's on them And tbh I'm actually surprised McDonalds didn't call the cops on them.

CuddleBunny1901 − They knew what they were doing, giving you and everyone else in line a hard time

and I'm sure they were giving the employees a hard time messing on the intercom and they pushed you too far to a point where you handed them

and taught them a lesson. If it hadn't been you it most likely would have been someone else. NTA

Some people emphasize that the teenagers’ actions, especially as new drivers, made them fully responsible for any consequences.

BeeYehWoo − During all of this I notice the driver has a new driver indicator on their vehicle…

which means they can have ZERO substances in their system, only ONE passenger,

and cannot have any electronic devices while driving even if they are hands free.

A lawyer once told me: Don't break the law while you're breaking the law.

If you're going to transport that dead h__ker in your trunk, make sure your brake lights work, your car is inspected, don't roll through stop signs, ensure your driver's license...

Yes its a crude piece of advice but it was verbatim. I had a lawyer that very much reminded me of Saul Goodman.

Anyway NTA. Your judgement call was to notify police and that's not dependent on whether someone has a new driver sticker.

They want to run with bad company who will get them in trouble, they got what was coming to them.

Others stress that the OP is not responsible for the full extent of the consequences, which stem from the teenagers’ own choices.

ClothesQueasy2828 − NTA. These kids are learning that there are consequences for their actions.

Once you called the police, the consequences are out of your hands. IMHO you did nothing wrong and the boys did everything wrong.

ObviouslyMeatloaf − 100% NTA. Decisions in life have consequences. They will face theirs.

Besides, our legal system can be a joke. They will probably only get a slap on the wrist. And maybe learn a lesson.

[Reddit User] − No. You just wanted to get them in trouble for what they did to you, not bring down a whole other set of consequences on them.

But the consequences they have coming are due to their own actions. Imagine a table.

Every day someone comes and puts a brick on the table. One day you come along and put a brick on the table.

The table breaks and all the bricks come tumbling down. Did you break the table? No.

Everybody broke the table. Your brick was just the last straw. These people broke their own table. NTA

After reading all the verdicts, OP makes a comment herself.

IDKFeltThrowAway − Thanks for all the replies! I’ve reflected and no longer feel bad.

Just a few points: Non Emergency is used here (Canada) if you don’t need immediate assistance or if the police don’t need to be dispatched.

There was absolutely no reason for them to exit their vehicle and approach mine anytime of the day let alone at 1230am in a drive through.

Had they not, I wouldn’t have called. He also didn’t even retreat when I very clearly told him to get the f__k away from me and my car.

Furthermore, I wish I could post a video I have of how they were acting in the drive through

prior to turning their attention to me to give everyone some perspective.

I’m convinced now after watching it, they were all high, which is legal, but not legal to drive on.

I will be following up with the RCMP later today to find out the outcome. I will update on here later! Thanks again to everyone!

In the end, this story is a reminder that rudeness can escalate fast, especially when laws are already being broken. The Redditor didn’t go looking for trouble, she just wanted a coffee and some peace.

Do you think calling the police was the right move, or should she have let it slide? How would you handle being harassed in a drive-thru at midnight? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
