Never Have I Ever, a coming-of-age comedy about an Indian-American youngster has been renewed for a fourth and final season.
Never Have I Ever’s plot
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan plays Devi, an adolescent Indian-American Tamil girl from Los Angeles, in the Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher sitcom.
Season 3, which just ended filming, will premiere this summer, and the comedy has been given an early renewal by the streaming service to bring the tale to a close. Season 4, which will premiere in 2023, is slated to begin filming in the next months.
Devi’s boy difficulties, adolescent desperation, and rivalry with a new Indian student were the subject of Season 2, which premiered in July 2021. She chooses to take on both Paxton (Darren Barnet) and Ben (Jaren Lewison) as significant others when choosing between them becomes too difficult.
Never Have I Ever’s cast
Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Lee Rodriguez, and Ramona Young also feature, with Anirudh Pisharody from The Goldbergs joining the cast as a recurring character in Season 3. The narration is provided by John McEnroe.
Universal Television, in collaboration with 3 Arts Entertainment, Original Langster, and Kaling International, is producing the series.
Fisher, who also co-created the program, is the showrunner and executive producer alongside Kaling and Howard Klein, and David Miner of 3 Arts Entertainment.
The service’s inaugural season did well, with 40 million households turning in over the first four weeks. It also made newbie Ramakrishnan a celebrity, and she went on to feature in Netflix’s rom-com The Netherfield Girls, voice Priya in Pixar‘s Turning Red, and as Zipp Storm in several My Little Pony animated series.
Is Never Have I Ever good?
In 2020, Ramakrishnan stated that Never Have I Ever had helped “break” prejudices, but that there was still more work to be done. She stated, “Devi is only one story, hopefully as much as this show inspires other minorities around the world, it will also inspire directors, producers, creators, and writers to start bringing that natural inclusion into their shows.”
Kaling and Fisher both agreed. “We can’t wait to reveal all the steamy romance and hilarious adventures we have in store for you. Thanks to all our fans for your support.”
“We are thrilled to have two more seasons of Never Have I Ever,” Netflix Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria remarked. “It’s everything we want in a Netflix comedy series: authentic, specific, funny, and full of heart. I love that a story I relate to so deeply – about a young, Indian-American girl – hits on so many universal truths that resonate with just about everyone. We’re eternally grateful to Mindy, Lang, and the wildly talented cast. And we can’t wait for everyone to see the final two seasons.”
Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television, added her two cents. “Four seasons of Never Have I Ever is truly exciting and a little bittersweet because, as a loyal fan, I’d love Devi’s journey to go on forever. But just like high school, all great things must come to an end. A big shout out to our fearless Cricket Queens, Mindy and Lang, and our exceptional cast and crew, who have authentically captured the emotional rollercoaster ride that defines our teenage years. We can’t wait to experience all of the messiness, the LOLs, and the tears that will surely unfold in Devi’s senior year.”
