Summary:
- Nicolas Cage is cast to play Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming titular live-action series.
- Cage used to voice the animated version of the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and is set to reprise the role in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
- Spider-Verse franchise’s creator Phil lord and Chris Miller will also take the helm of the Spider-Man Noir project.
Nicolas Cage will once again portray Spider-Man Noir after his stint in Into the Spider-Verse, but this time in a live-action series, marking his third venture into a Marvel-related project.
According to Variety, this groundbreaking project will premiere on MGM+ and later globally on Amazon Prime Video, as confirmed ahead of Amazon’s advertising presentation in New York. This series announcement comes after the news initially broke in February 2023 that the project was in development, though at that time, Cage’s involvement was not confirmed.
Cage first lent his voice to Spider-Man Noir in the critically acclaimed animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. His return to the character in a live-action format marks a first for Spider-Man Noir.
The spinoff series will tell the story of a Peter Parker variant from Earth-90214, who’s an aging investigator in a crime-ridden New York City in the 1930s. As the name suggests, this version of Peter is darker and more ruthless, he would even resort to killing his enemies when needed.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character,” Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, expressed excitement about Cage’s casting.
The Spider-Verse franchise’s producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord are set to executive produce “Noir.” They will work alongside showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot to bring this ambitious project to life.
This role represents Nicolas Cage’s first major foray into television, having established a formidable film career with an Academy Award win for Leaving Las Vegas and notable performances in Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, Face/Off, and the National Treasure and Ghost Rider series.
Sony continues to develop its portfolio of Marvel and Spider-Man-related characters, with projects like Venom, Let There Be Carnage, Morbius, and Madame Web. Additionally, a third Venom film is in the pipeline along with a new Kraven the Hunter film, both are set to release later this year.
