Cameras on “Riddick: Furya” are due to roll on August 26th in Germany, Spain, and the UK. According to the film’s press release, the plot continues as Riddick returns to his sparsely remembered homeworld, only to find it apparently destroyed. Upon arrival, he finds fellow Furyans battling a new monstrous threat, some of whom find more in common with Riddick than he’d ever wanted.
The Riddick franchise began in 2000 with “Pitch Black,” followed by “The Chronicles of Riddick” in 2004, and “Riddick” in 2013. Diesel expressed an interest in returning to the dark sci-fi universe in 2014 with Universal Studios. In 2015, Diesel took to Facebook with a video that included Twohy, discussing how they envisioned the possible fourth film in the series exploring the origins of his character.
This eventually spun off into the actual news of “Riddick: Furya” last year. But as we reviewed the third film, “Riddick” (2013), we rated it a 6/10, mentioning it as “nothing special but a fun, kick-ass ride where Vin Diesel talks tough and kills monsters & scumbags.
