- Dogpool even has an Instagram of its own to promote the movie.
The official trailer of Deadpool & Wolverine contains a ton of references and new interesting characters. It also features one much-anticipated Deadpool variant, Dogpool. As the name suggests, Dogpool is basically the canine version of the Merc with a Mouth, and according to Ryan Reynolds, he and the crew have had a ton of fun filming with this adorable snoot.
In an interview with Empire, Reynolds shared insights into the casting of Dogpool, who he wanted to be played by a very specific canine. In the trailer, Dogpool is portrayed by Peggy, a distinctively charming pup crowned “Britain’s Ugliest Dog.”
Reynolds championed Peggy for the role, feeling that her unique appearance perfectly embodies what Wade Wilson‘s animal alter ego would look like, since Wade’s face is also deformed due to the cancer tumor. Although Deadpool and Wolverine are the main focus, Dogpool has carved out her niche during filming, evolving from a minor feature into a full-fledged character beloved by the cast and crew alike.
“It’s love at first sight. He loves Dogpool. Her real name is Peggy, and she won the award for Britain’s Ugliest Dog. The reason why I was a huge proponent for her was because she feels like the animal manifestation of Wade Wilson.”
“It was, just like many things during the writing process, a tiny little afterthought, and it grew. It was one of those things where you just keep listening to the movie, and Dogpool became a staple,” Reynolds remarked about Deadpool’s instant connection with his furry counterpart.
The If actor also playfully hinted at Dogpool’s mischievous side, which can be as equally devastating and hilarious as Wade Wilson himself: “Dogpool’s a Pool, so probably has some moral flexibility about where she wees and poops.”
Since the trailer’s release, an Instagram account for Dogpool has also been launched, adding to the hype. In a post, Dogpool, “voiced” through Peggy, celebrated the end of filming with a humorous note that captured her Deadpool-esque humor:
“That’s a wrap on my first movie! We worked our pants off but it was worth it. Everyone on set was the utmost professional, especially Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman. And a super-hero big bow-wow-WOW to the entire crew. No matter the challenge, you rose to the task and made it look easy. I wouldn’t change a thing. Except maybe one person who was a little extra to deal with. But don’t worry, I’ve forgiven him. I even left him a very special warm, personal gift in his trailer.”

Attached with the post is a picture of Peggy showing her genitalia forward. It seems that Reynolds will find a pleasant surprise in his trailer, left behind by his beloved canine variant.
In the comics, Dogpool is originally a test animal for cosmetic experiments, he gains his powers after being thrown away by Mascara X. He then joins a circus and gets recruited into the Deadpool Corps, a team comprising various versions of Deadpool from different dimensions, thanks to his Earth-616 counterpart.
In the corps, Dogpool is close friends with Kidpool, a young version of the Merc with a Mouth. Kidpool is also another Deadpool variant who’s rumored to be in the upcoming MCU title.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26, and we just can’t wait to see Dogpool in action on the big screen.
