Lindsay Lohan has been involved in several high-profile conflicts over the years, including her infamous feud with Paris Hilton and her tense relationship with Hilary Duff.
While Lohan played a central role in these disputes, her supposed drama with Emma Stone is a bit different. Despite not having any clear conflict, the two actresses are frequently compared in the media.
The comparisons between Lohan and Stone often start with their looks. Both have signature red hair and striking almond-shaped eyes.
Interestingly, though, Emma Stone is actually a natural blonde, despite being best known for her auburn locks. In a 2010 “Saturday Night Live” episode, Stone leaned into the comparison by impersonating Lohan as a guest on “The View.”
With her half-up hairstyle and dark eye makeup, Stone’s look in the sketch highlighted their physical similarities.
But the media attention on Lohan and Stone goes beyond their appearances. Their careers have also been contrasted, with Stone’s rise in Hollywood coming just as Lohan’s was taking a downturn.
#1. The Parallel Careers of Lindsay Lohan and Emma Stone
Emma Stone is everything Lindsay Lohan had the potential to be,” someone commented on X, formerly known as Twitter, in 2024. This idea—that Emma Stone has become a kind of pop culture and career successor to Lindsay Lohan—is not a new one.
It has been echoed across social media platforms like Reddit and suggested by publications such as The Daily Beast.
The comparison goes beyond their similar looks. Stone’s rise in Hollywood during the late 2000s coincided with Lohan’s career stalled, largely due to her struggles with drug use and legal issues.
It’s worth noting that one of Stone’s early successes, “Easy A,” was a teen comedy often compared to John Hughes’ films of the ’80s, the iconic “Clueless,” and, of course, “Mean Girls.” While Stone entered the teen movie genre that Lohan had dominated with hits like “Freaky Friday” and “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,” she quickly transitioned beyond that niche.
The Arizona-born Stone has earned critical acclaim for her performances in dramas like “Birdman,” “La La Land,” and “Battle of the Sexes,” while still embracing her comedic roots in projects like the series “The Curse” and films such as “The Favourite” and “Poor Things.
In contrast, Lohan’s career remained largely stagnant throughout the 2010s, overshadowed by her tarnished reputation in the industry. However, the 2020s marked a turning point for Lohan, as she partnered with a streaming giant to revive her rom-com career.
#2.What the Stars Have Said About Each Other
While the supposed drama between Lindsay Lohan and Emma Stone has mostly played out through media comparisons, the two have had a few direct interactions.
Beyond Lohan’s memorable (and possibly shady) 2012 tweet, “Wtf is Emma Stone?” (via Heat), the “Parent Trap” star extended an olive branch by suggesting they collaborate on a sequel to “Mean Girls.”
“Can we film a movie called ‘Mean Girls 2’ together?” Lohan wrote in a now-deleted birthday post from 2017. “I think we would be friends” (per BuzzFeed).
Although the proposal never materialized—perhaps because a made-for-TV “Mean Girls 2” starring Meaghan Martin already exists—it seemed like Lohan’s attempt to make peace with her perceived rival.
Meanwhile, Stone has said very little about Lohan. In fact, her only comment regarding Lohan was an admission to The Herald Sun that Lohan is the true redhead between the two of them (per The Daily Beast).
Despite the media’s efforts to create a rivalry, both actresses have continued to build distinct and successful careers in their own right.
