The Batman Part II is flying off to a new date. The film will now open on Oct. 2, 2026—that’s back a full year from its previous date.
Batman 2 wasn’t the only notable change to Warner Bros.‘ release calendar on Tuesday: The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, now will fill Batman 2’s old Oct. 3, 2025, date; Barry Levinson’s gangster pic Alto Nights is being delayed from Nov. 24, 2024 to March 21, 2025; and Paul Thomas Anderson‘s untitled, star-studded event pic has landed an Aug. 8, 2025, release date. All of the titles will be offered in Imax.
A sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. In August of that year, Mattson Tomlin boarded to co-write with Reeves. And late in January, the film got a title and date: Oct. 3, 2025. DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The Batman opened to a very solid $134 million in North America and has taken $770.3 million globally, making it the second best of the pandemic, behind only Spider-Man. It launched a new franchise, with Colin Farrell‘s Penguin getting his own Max series and Reeves developing an Arkham Asylum-focused show that morphed out of an earlier idea for a series focused on the Gotham Police Department.
The huge ensemble also stars Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Andy Serkis as Alfred. It also featured Barry Keoghan as a mystery Arkham Asylum inmate who is actually a friend of Riddler, with that character teased to be a version of The Joker.
The Bride! also stars Jessie Buckley and Peter Sarsgaard, with Annette Bening and Penélope Cruz. Gyllenhaal wrote the script for the action pic and is producing alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman-Keren.
There has been quite a lot of buzz around writer-director Anderson’s untitled film in which Leonardo DiCaprio stars with Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti. Anderson produces with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner. Plot details are being kept under tight wraps.
It’s understood that Alto Knights was moved for competitive reasons. The gangster pic stars Robert De Niro, Debra Messing, Cosmo Jarvis, Kathrine Narducci, and Michael Rispoli. Nick Pileggi scripted for Levinson; Irwin Winkler, Jason Sosnoff, Charles Winkler, and David Winkler produced.
The Batman 2 Cast: Potential Returning Faces and New Additions
Only the return of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne in “The Batman – Part II” has been officially confirmed over time. Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis as Catwoman, Jim Gordon, and Alfred, are the characters that are more likely to have a future in the series.
Barry Keoghan, though, as Joker, might have a more important role, as it is not that believable for him to be seen only inside a cell, and Colin Farrell as Penguin may be used more. Last but not least, Paul Dano‘s Riddler survived and still remained at large in the end, meaning he would also have to be a major threat throughout the entire trilogy.
