Summary:
- “White Collar” reboot announced, original cast returning.
- Script aims to satisfy existing fans while welcoming new viewers.
- Honors late actor Willie Garson, paves way for continuation.
Another round of cat-and-mouse (and sometimes reluctant partnership) between Neal Caffrey and Peter Burke is starting! A reboot of the beloved crime drama “White Collar” is officially in the works.
The exciting news comes straight from the source: creator Jeff Eastin himself announced the reboot during a panel at Variety’s TV Fest. Joining him were original series stars Matt Bomer (Neal Caffrey), Tim DeKay (Peter Burke), and Tiffani Thiessen, all confirming their return.
According to Tim DeKay, the script “answers all the questions that one would have if you watch the show” while also being accessible to new viewers. This reboot aims to recapture the magic of the original series for existing fans while introducing it to a whole new generation.
The new series will also pay homage to the late Willie Garson, who played Neal’s witty partner-in-crime Mozzie. Tiffani Thiessen describes the script as honoring Garson “with such sensitivity and such heart.
The resurgence of “White Collar” on streaming platforms, along with the success of similar shows like “Suits” getting franchise extensions, is credited with paving the way for this reboot. As Eastin puts it, “Suits…got people watching White Collar now on Netflix. That’s doing really, really good. Off of that, it’s like, ‘Hey, let’s do another one.’”
“White Collar” originally aired from 2009 to 2014 and left things open-ended for a potential continuation. With Neal’s final scene showing him walking away in Paris, creator Eastin confirms, “I always left it open.” This gives the reboot a perfect jumping-off point to explore a new chapter in Neal and Peter’s complex relationship.
While there’s no official announcement yet on the network or streaming platform, speculation points towards Hulu given Disney’s ownership of the rights and its controlling stake in Hulu.
With the original cast on board, a script that honors the legacy of the show, and a renewed interest in the franchise, the “White Collar” reboot is shaping up to be a delightful return for fans and a captivating introduction for newcomers
