Woman Parks Flawlessly, Blocks Plus-Sized Woman’s Car Door, Then Says Something To Irritate Her

A holiday shopping trip turned chaotic when a 26-year-old Redditor snagged a shady mall parking spot, only to ignite a fiery clash with two women and a security guard. Her wide car fit neatly within the lines, but the fight over door space exploded into sharp words about personal size.

Her blunt clapback lit up Reddit’s AITA, splitting readers on parking etiquette and regret. Was it truth well-served or hot air that should’ve stayed parked? This saga’s tighter than a packed lot and juicier than a Christmas sale.

Woman parks car perfectly within the lines, still makes another woman, whose car parked nearby, not able to get into hers. She then calls her fat.

Woman Parks Flawlessly, Blocks Plus-Sized Woman’s Car Door, Then Says Something To Irritate Her
Not the actual photo.

'AITA for telling a woman that it's not my fault that she couldn't get into her car because she's fat?'

Obligatory "I'm on mobile."

I(26f) went Christmas shopping on Saturday. There weren't a lot of parking spots available

and I pulled into the first spot I could find that wasn't in the sun.

My car is long and wide, but I was well within the lines of my spot and I could open both the passenger and driver doors

and comfortably get out without hitting the cars parked on either end of mine.

I should mention that the doors couldn't open all the way i.e until it can't swing any further.

I thought it was enough that it could open three quarters of the way (I really didn't think too hard about this.

Just checked to see that the other cars could open their doors and get in without dinging mine) and went in to do my shopping.

Approximately an hour later, I returned to find two plus size (only mention because it's relevant) women (maybe 30 and 45?) in a heated discussion with mall security in front...

They asked if I was the owner and as soon as I said "yes" they went off. Apparently, security was there because the women wanted my car removed because "I...

The security guys said there wasn't anything they could do about it because I was inside the lines and they didn't have a tow anyway.

I demonstrated that the doors could open well enough on both sides, and explained that I ended up in the spot because there were very few left.

They pointed to the far end of the park and asked why I didn't go there, and I explained that I avoided the spots in the sun

because my car would've been an oven by the time I got back, but that if I had known they wouldn't fit, I'd have just parked there to begin with.

The older of the two women made a comment about me being rude and inconsiderate

and asked if I even had a license because I'm a s__tty road user, and that I shouldn't take up a spot if the doors can't open the entire way.

At that point, I was tired and just wanted to leave so I put my things in the car and told them that there was nothing wrong with the way...

and that it isn't my fault that they were too fat to get in through the gap.

As expected, they started screaming at me for being fatphobic and calling me a bunch of names.

I ignored them and just pulled out and drove home. I do feel bad, and I'm wondering if I should've just shut up and apologized

or maybe used another word instead of "fat", but I still don't see how I was supposed to know what they looked like and just park in the sun.

TL;DR: AITA for parking in a spot which allowed me to get in and out of my car comfortably,

and pointing out that the two women who couldn't simply couldn't get in because they are fat, not because I parked badly?

Is it a crime to criticize someone for their size, even though it may sound reasonable in particular situations?

A woman parked her car neatly within the lines, leaving just enough room for her to slip out without dinging neighboring vehicles.

The problem arose when two women couldn’t squeeze into their car, blaming her for their tight fit. The situation escalated with a sharp comment about their size that left everyone fuming.

The Redditor’s parking was within the lines, doors functional, no damage done. Yet, the women’s frustration is relatable as cramped parking lots are a universal headache.

According to a 2023 study by the National Parking Association, 68% of drivers report stress from tight parking spaces, especially during holiday seasons.

The Redditor’s choice to avoid sunny spots was practical. Nobody wants a steering wheel hot enough to cook a pizza.

But the women’s accusation of “inconsiderate” parking stung, especially since they assumed she should’ve foreseen their struggle.

The real spark was the Redditor’s retort, calling the women “too fat” to fit. While factually tied to the issue, the word choice was a verbal landmine.

Dr. Jane Greer, a relationship expert quoted in Psychology Today, notes, “Honesty without tact can escalate conflicts unnecessarily, especially in emotionally charged situations.”

Here, the Redditor’s bluntness turned a logistical spat into a personal attack, fueling accusations of insensitivity. Both sides had valid points: the women needed more space, but expecting a stranger to predict that is a stretch.

This dust-up reflects broader social tensions around body image and public spaces. People of all sizes navigate tight parking lots daily, yet larger individuals may face unique challenges.

The Redditor could’ve de-escalated by acknowledging their frustration without personal jabs, maybe a quick “I didn’t realize, let’s figure this out.” Instead, the clash became a Reddit lightning rod, splitting opinions on courtesy versus accountability.

What’s the takeaway? Parking lots are a shared jungle, so plan for the unexpected. If you need extra room, snagging a farther spot might save the drama. For our Redditor, a softer response could’ve kept the peace.

See what others had to share with OP:

People believe parking within lines justifies actions, and others’ size issues aren’t the parker’s responsibility.

cdifl − NTA. If you were parked between the lines and there was space to open the doors, you did nothing wrong.

You were fully justified giving their attitude right back at them, and pointing out the reason

why they can't get into their car (obesity) is not your problem. Parking lots are cramped, that's life.

They need to take special steps if they need special accommodations.

clockwerked1 − You were within the lines, the parking spot was available and you didn't want a hot box when you got back.

I see nothing wrong here. NTA for parking. Them calling you things all because they couldn't get in their car due to their body size

(out of your control) and the fact that it's a public space (also out of your control), they're TA.

You getting irritated because (let's be really honest here) you're getting verbally slammed

by 2 people you never had the intention of stopping them from getting into their car then calling them fat?

NTA. They maybe deal with this on a weekly basis.

[Reddit User] − NTA. If your car is comfortably within the lines, that's their problem, not yours.

As for the fat thing, if that was honestly the reason why they couldn't fit in the car, why were they getting mad and blaming you?

You didn't make them like that.

Individuals argue that rude behavior from others warrants a direct response, not politeness.

mikan_sakura145 − NTA- don’t dish out what you can’t serve they were rude first and expected to be respected?

Maybe this will teach them to respect others because let’s face it.

Everyone can say oh you should have been polite or blah blah in the real world it doesn’t work like that sometimes people need a reality check.

getting mad and blaming you? You didn't make them like that.

CadieWithTheLaugh424 − NTA. I'm fat and it is absolutely disgusting to me whenever people want to scream about people being fatphobic.

How is this even a thing? You were well within the lines and could open both doors.

How are you suppose to know the size of the people in the cars next to you?

Some suggest larger individuals should choose parking spots to accommodate their needs.

Shintox − If this was such an issue for them why didn't they park in the sunny area? This sounds like a daily occurrence for them. NTA.

LOLRyanTurk − NTA - you have every right to park wherever you find a spot as long as your car fits in it and doesn't do damage to other cars.

While I understand as a plus sized male myself that this situation can be irritating, I usually park further out to avoid this situation myself.

They could have as well.

theebetchelor − NTA also stating a fact is not fat shaming, these women were overweight and couldn’t get access to their vehicles because of it.

They know how parking lots are and if they have such difficulty then they should have parked appropriately so it wouldn’t be an issue.

They sound entitled.

One person notes parking lot design often limits door-opening space.

Sfb208 − Wait, there are car parks where cars can fully open their door??? That never happens in the UK, you can only ever open it 3/4of the way.

A larger individual empathizes but finds no issue unless parking is improper.

[Reddit User] − I'm a bigger girl and I still manage to squeeze myself into our vehicle with little issues unless an a__hat parks over their lines or too close...

This parking lot saga leaves us with a Redditor caught between practicality and a PR nightmare.

Was her sharp retort a justified jab after being called out unfairly, or did she fan the flames by getting personal?

Navigating tight spaces takes finesse. Would you have parked differently knowing the chaos it’d spark, or stood your ground like our Redditor? Drop your hot takes and let’s keep this parking lot party rolling!
